..and I am worried. Do you think its something to be worrying about. He loves sleeping on his chest and it scares me a lot. I can’t properly sleep at nights just to make sure that he is sleeping properly.
Lately he has developed this habit maybe because it is transferred to him from me (as I like hiding my face in pillow or my duvet while sleeping) , not only that he sleeps on his chest but also hides his face down in his cot mattress or his pillow.
And I know I shouldn’t have been using a pillow for him at the first place but he would not sleep witbout it.
I’m really worried. He loves rolling over even when he is awake and I can’t imagine leaving him alone unless don’t tie him in his bouncer.
Is he rolling at night on his own? Just make sure you don’t have pillows or blankets. If he is rolling by himself it is okay, my son would roll over too and still does. Just make sure his surrounding is safe. No pillows, stuff toys, blankets, etc. I hope you have a firm mattress. Also you can take off the bumpers for better ventilation.
Yes on his own. That is the main problem Lusi. He won’t sleep without a pillow or his tiny duvet. He needs both. He grabs his pillow’s corner and would hide his face in it and if I take it away from him, he cries and acts like an over-charged battery…
The problem is not with the pillow only… the problem is, he loves sleeping on his chest with head down and hidden. So if I take away the pillow, is it ok for him to sleep that way? Or should I be still worried.
just keep trying once he sleeps take away the stuff , just keep repeating he will gradually learn. my daughter also used to sleep on her daddy’s chest but we kept putting her in cot once she slept. rolling is good just make sure he is safe. I used to put a big comforter on carpet and placed my baby on it so tht she can roll and removed stuff tht can hurt her. this is how babies learn to sit, crawl, stand n walk , you cant tie them whole day.
the sleep sack is a great idea! it serves as a blanket and its not a suffocation hazard so he won’t get tangled up in it.
if he’s sleeping in his crib on a mattress covered with a tight fitted sheet, no other toys or pillows around, and a breathable bumper, then yes- taking away the pillow once he’s asleep will work. its fine for him to sleep on his stomach because at 5 months old, he should be able to roll back over if he rolls face down. do you have a video baby monitor to keep an eye on him? ours picked up even the slightest sound so if he was ever struggling, it would switch on and we were able to go help him out.
I remember my son also started rolling around 5/6 months. It is okay. However, we never used a pillow that early. Take the pillow when he falls asleep.
