My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names...

I have had my baby girl-she was born on the 24th but we were both in hospital so couldn’t update you guys. Anyhow, we are Mashallah both fine and would like tothank everyine iver the last few months for their advice and support.

So basically I have a problem-naming baby. We have a name but my husband is convinced that the names don’t go together.

Other names that have been suggested and out ruled are:
Manoor-with a Midlands accent can sound like ‘Manure’ (not good me thinks).
Ayman-although it’s unisex it sounds very masculine (I know I’m being fussy).

My reasoning for the names are:

Hira-because of it’s religious context (family say it sounds old but I think it’s a great name with meaning. They also don’t like it because such and such has a granddaughter who lives in another country to us with the same name and it wouldn’t be nice-erm okay).

Aiza-I was led to believe this is the name of Hazrat Ali’s (R.A.) daughter but cannot find solid evidence thus would prefer it as a middle name. It’s my husband’s favourite too.

It’s quite important to me that baby has a name that isn’t a fashion statement, rather has a Islamic background. Maybe my hormones are making me sensative but I have out ruled all names with no meaning or are currently charting high within new names for babies.

So I’m thinking Hira Aiza Khattak (her father is pathan, and although his surname isn’t Khattak, it’s either that or Khan which he doesn’t wish to use either so I’m stuck and I don’t think I should use my own surname).

Oh and before I forget, is it quite common for people to use their first name as their child’s surname? My husband wants to use his name (Abid) as baby’s surname and I’ve never heard of it as a surname?

I don’t want anyone to laugh/make fun of my baby an their name at Inshallah School etc.

Any advice welcome.

Thanks again folks, all the advice from you all was very helpful.

I would post a thread on getting ready for being induced etc on here but I’m not sure if all the details would be suitable for posting on here? My birth wasn’t straight forward, and had various complications, so thought maybe a post on what happend and how I dealt with it maybe better/helpful for others.

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names...

Congrats on your bundle of joy :)

I only know girls with the name Ayman and I think its a pretty cute name.

Hira is nice too as a second option....As for the surname, It's quite common for dad's first name to be used as a the baby's surname... Hira Abid and Ayman Abid both sound great...

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names...

Congratulations!

Enaya is a nice name and has a lovely meaning.. that is Blessing

I also like Eman- meaning faith

and lots of people have their fathers first name as their last name.. it's pretty common in Pakistan!

Other suggestions are,

Fatima
Aminah
Omaima
Akasha (name of surah in Quran and a name of sahabi but is considered unisex name)
Samrah

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names...

I say Aiza abid :D

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names…

Congratulations!

Aiza is pretty but I would suggest spelling it Ayza so it forces the AY-za and it doesn’t turn into EH-za. I found a meaning for Aiza online as “noble” from this list- http://www.parvez-video.com/muslim/baby_name/index.asp

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names...

I liked Aiza too and checked the meaning... it means noble.. it's a very beautiful name with a beautiful meaning!!

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names...

Congrats !!! May Allah Bless You With More Happiness N Health :)

Aiza Is Good Name Go For It !!! :)

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names...

Congrats!

Both those names were on my list too. Very pretty. I think Hira Aiza is fine!

I know a lot of people who give the father's first name as the child's last name, but it does get confusing in the West. If possible, keep it so you have the same last name.

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names...

i also agree with the rest, Hira Aiza Khattak, Hira Aiza Khan, or Hira Aiza Abid, all sounds really good and proper names. if you heart is set on Hira go for it.

in you still need suggestion, meaning vise i love the name muntaha, it has such good meanings islamically.

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names…

Congrats, I love the name Aiza

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names...

Aiza is way too common these days..I say pick a different name.

I like Menaal

Menaal - special flower of heaven

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names...

^ I know someone who just named their daughter Menaal...love that name!

I have heard of Aiza quite a bit nowadays but its still a very pretty name.

Hira Abid
Aiza Abid

They both sound great and much better than Khattak (IMHO) or Khan.

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names...

hey congrats a lot aimen aiza n hira all r nice names n abid is more suitable surname than khattak it sounds better i think

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names...

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names...

^ You know its quite a possibility! She has two other kids? One (elder) boy and one girl?

Another name I really really love is Swaleha...I know its old and done to death but Ive been in love with it forever.

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names...

^No, I guess you're talking about someone else then.

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names...

mah+noor = mahnoor...there is an H in the middle and u omitted that which causes problems with pronouncing the name correctly. u could name her mahroo [mah+roo] or mahjabeen [mah+jabeen], i suppose

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names...

Aiman isn't a unisex name lol.

Yeah mahjabeen is a nice name. Mahjabeen, Shireen, Batool,

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names…

agree with above ! Mah noor was one of my fav name but due to some issues I couldn’t give my daughter that name.

Hira is a lovely name , my vote is for Hira :jano:

and Congratulations

Re: My baby has arrived plus I need advice on names…

**
thnx…Hira as in Ghaar-e-Hira [Cave of Hira where Prophet [s.w.s.] recieved his first revelation] is often confused with a Hindu name Heera [diamond…as in Heera Lal, Panna Lal (Bollywood movie)] so, i wud be careful in spelling the name correctly.

its Hiraa [beRii He (Halwa wali), re, alif, hamzah]**
