Muzaffar Nagar a Tale of Death and Despair

Heart wrenching and depressing to see the plight of these innocent people.??? ??? - ?BBC Urdu? - ??? ??? ???: ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ?? ??? ???

BBC News - Muzaffarnagar: Tales of death and despair in India’s riot-hit town

"Around 9am on 8 September, armed bands of Jats started attacking Muslim homes.
“They first burnt down a local mosque, then they started attacking individual homes. Around 10:30am, five male members of my extended family, including my son, were killed. They were out on the street, defending the elderly, the women and the children who were locked inside our homes.”
Rubbing his index finger on his throat, he says in a barely audible voice: “They slit his throat.”
The fighting in Kutba went on for two hours after which the police arrived and escorted Muslims to safety.
Mr Aziz and many of his neighbours chose Shahpur, a Muslims majority village.

Bohti Bi, an elderly and ailing Muslim woman, is being looked after by her Jat neighbours
Though the law and order situation has improved in the past fortnight, Mr Aziz is not ready to go back. “I have given up everything,” he says.

Re: Muzaffar Nagar a Tale of Death and Despair

Thats sad, but interesting thing is that Pakistani media tried to cover this up as compared to the Indians.

Re: Muzaffar Nagar a Tale of Death and Despair

Its all due to Islamists and Zia era and Taliban apologists in Pakistan......not to mention the islamic blasphemy law and hudood ordinance. If none of that happened, this wouldn't be happenning to muslims in india........

Re: Muzaffar Nagar a Tale of Death and Despair

From what I have read in independent news sites is that this area is dominated by Hindu Jat, Gujjars, Rajputs, Yadavs and Chamars and muslims are mostly about 15% of the population. The Hindu Jats, Gujjars and Rajputs are the dominant zamindars and the muslims are mostly poor landless farm workers for them.

The problem arose in some muslim dominated areas where there is a criminal element. A group of muslims youths harassed some girls that happened to belong to the Jat community. The jat girl went back and told her brother and cousins. The girls brother and cousin went and killed the muslim guy. The muslim guy's relatives then killed the two jat youths. The politicans from both sides got involved and riots started. Part of this is religious and part of this is feudal because the zamindar jat community wanted to teach a lesson to the poor laborers who dared to fight them.

Instead both communities should have followed the law and taken recourse in the judiciary instead of taking matters into their own hands and indulging in mob mentality. Nobody "won" here. Everybody lost. Many riots and wars have been started because women have been dishonored but still man refuses to learn from it. How stupid!
