Okay this is quite a phenomenon, some ppl have already heard of this but I learnt this the other day in my genetics lecture the pic above is of a mutant drosphola (fruit fly) and what we can actually see is a pair of legs on it’s face. due to experiments with the hox gene. and then the second pic is of the normal (wild type) fruit fies face. So strange right?

fruit flies are favorites of geneticists to understand how genome works. they reproduce quickly, and any change on them is quite obvious. and their genome is pretty simple as well. my friend did her thesis work on fruit flies which involved mating them, taking care of the larvae, growing them and then killing them to see effects of whatver she was doing. she told me that at the end she didn’t want to kill them as she had grown quite attached to them ![]()
