Re: Mutah [temporary marriage] in the time of Amir ul Momineen Ali ibn Abi Talib
Did any sahaba do Mut'a? How about the 12 Shia Imams?
Things dont become haram because Imam's or sahaba didnt do em ... they become haram when Imams and Rasool s.a.w told u not to do them !
To my understanding if Imams did mutta .... People would come up with conclusion that Imams called it halal because they were into mutta !
We do have christian arguments saying .... Did Mohammed s.a.w come in this world to preech islam or getting married ? No wonder these kinda questions would raise if imams did mutta
Re: Mutah [temporary marriage] in the time of Amir ul Momineen Ali ibn Abi Talib
okay so ibn abbas[ra] and jabir b abdullah [ra] did deem Mutah halal even after Umar[ra] 's time ?
Is there a incident where Imam Ali[as] permitted Mutah in his caliphate and people opposed his decision?
brother BOYNICE from your early post it seems that Ali[as] did not do thing that will turn people against him or would contradict the example of first 2 caliphs ....but Ali[as] repeatedly said that he will only follow Quran and sunnah and not the seerah of shaykhan [where it contradicted the sunnah & Quran] infact thats the reason he gave to abdurrehman b auf [ra] when he offered him the caliphate on the condition that he follows the shaykhan ....so why wud Ali[as] later not keep his word ?
secondly Ali[as] did infact do things which were not in accordance with the example of the earlier caliphs , that is one of the reason why the khawarij turned against him ..

Salam !
There were two kind of people who followed Imam Ali ... one who followed him as first Imam and then people who followed him as fourth caliph.
Khawarij were the ones who did turn against him but dont u see when these khawarij made Ali a.s back of @ sufaain ? Even though Ali a.s wanted to get rid of mavia these are the people who didnt let it happen but Ali a.s stoped the war after Quran was raised on spears because of khawarij.
Dont he think he wud have fought even if khawrij were against the war after Quran was raised on Spears ... but at this point he did care about people turning against him ...... i dont have enough knowledge about mutta but from the example above what i see is Ali a.s did not do the things that will turn people against him !
There might be a example that am not aware of which would make us see things differently so please post some here

brother question is Ali[as] throughout his caliphate said and even before his election that he will lead the people according to Quran and Sunnah and not according to anyone's else's interpretation ....so the argument that he followed the practices of earlier caliphs seems a little strange
Re: Mutah [temporary marriage] in the time of Amir ul Momineen Ali ibn Abi Talib
The things people describe about these dynasties - why would you ever even turn to a source other than the Quran for guidance on these topics? Is it not clear to you how things were not perfect in that era and the records aren't clear on everything, and therefore should be researched with a grain of salt??
Re: Mutah [temporary marriage] in the time of Amir ul Momineen Ali ibn Abi Talib
^ Quran alone without sunnah cannot complete the faith ....and here lies the dispute amongst sources
btw there were no dynasties in that period they started after 40 Hijra

I wud never agree with anything that says he followed earlier caliphs in those acts that were against Quran ,,,, and i never agreed to it ,,,, but he did care about turning against him. Suffain is the example i mentioned

Quran never bans mutta .... if Quran is the only thing u wana discuss then atleast this topic gets a conclusion ....
One question to sunni's and shia's not to prove anyone wrong which is mostly the target here but for genral knowledge ... what does right hand poses means ?

Dear bro, you are getting it from from different prespective. There is no doubt that Ali bin Abi Talib [as] did not follow the Shaykhayn, and not changing the decisions of shaykhayn does not mean he was following them and contradicting from his statement. As I pointed out earlier, he was indeed ruling with Quran and Sunnah for those who were ready to accept that i.e. the actual followers of Ahlulbayt [as], so one cannot say that he didnt keep the resolution that he had passed.
If it is argued that why not to make changes in the decisions of shaykhayn if they were comforming to the islamic injunctions, then the answer will be that it would have caused no result instead it would have resulted in yet another era of sedition and the end resulted after bloodshed would be same i.e. the harline adherents of shaykhayn would have not accepted 'deviations' from what they have been taught by the shaykhayn.

Brothers, this discussion can end if anyone give simple answer of the original question of this topic i.e.,
Did Syedna Ali (RZA) permitted Muttah during his Caliphate?
A simple yes or no do...

Found this website yesterday, it has a LOT of articles on the subject. But I couldn’t find any that would answer the thread’s question, but quite a few that analyze why it was banned after the Prophet’s death, and so forth.
