Musthave in your makeup bag

First of all, I wasn’t sure if someone started a thread about this before; if it’s opened before, then please direct me to it.

SO, here is how it is. My mom NEVER let me put on make-up when I was in early and mid teens…After that time, I battled with severe acne and would never even think of putting any make-up on due to fear that it would just aggravate acne even more. However, now when I’m 22 and see 13-14 year olds being all made up, I think it’s the time I should get started too. The problem is*** I DO NOT KNOW WHAT DO I NEED TO START MY MAKE-UP REGIME*** :hinna:…I mean, heck, I can’t even put eye-liner on :hayaa:

So all you make-up gurus, come on out and help me out pleaSSSe…The thing is that I want to look well put together and polished but not caked up with kilos of make-up..Because I’ve NEVER tried my hands on it, it would be a huge shock for so many people in the beginning. Also, along with basic products that I need, please mention how to apply it to get the right look.

Thank you:bb:

I was just looking for the MAC beauty bible for u to download but I can’t find it anywhere atm, it’s great with step-by-step instructions on applying ur makeup - foundation, eyeliner, eyeshadows and loads of different makeup styles from natural/nude to super glam, it’s really well laid out and easy to follow. Actually, I prob have the CD somewhere, if u like I can email it to you

Hope u’ve got a good skincare regime cos obviously that is ur ‘base’ and ur canvas. Btw for people who have acne problems the best thing to do is see ur doctor, I had problem skin and got a prescription for oxytetracycline and that stuff was like a miracle in tablet form, after about a month it had started working and honestly after it became part of my regular routine I did not get one more single spot for the next 2 years I was on it. It was amazing stuff. Apart from the tablets there are other prescription medications that come in topical form ie they’re applied directly to the skin and if people can’t/don’t want to take pills they’re a brilliant alternative.

Wishkamar, if u’ve not really worn makeup before start with a bit of mascara just to open up your eyes a bit. Foundation is really difficult to get right if ur new to makeup so maybe go into a dept. store and ask some of the consultants for their opinions and help and tips for applying it, u can even get them to give u a subtle makeover, I used to love have my makeup done at 15/16 behind the screen at the Chanel counter, it wasn’t much, just a light foundation and a bit of eye makeup. If u think regular foundation might be a bit ‘much’ u could use a tinted moisturiser or mineral makeup or something else instead, that way u’ll still look good but v.v.natural

A lot of people when they’re v.new to makeup leave their lips bare or wear clear/tinted gloss cos it gives u a nice shine but doesn’t make u look drastically different. Some people don’t like the stickiness tho and the annoying gloss getting in ur hair if it’s windy lol. If u prefer a matte look there are loads of subtle lipsticks around, I always always always wear liner, it makes the colour stay on so much longer and u look more ‘neat’ tho some people prefer just a subtle ‘wash’ of colour so it’s totally personal thing. If ur wearing lipstick and ur out for a nice meal lick the glass (in a subtle way!) before u drink so u don’t get the annoying mark, also beware getting it on ur teeth, always makes me giggle when ic someone smile and u can see lipstick on their two front teeth lol

Sorry for the long post, I just love talking makeup (and handbags and shoes) :sadiyah:

I'd start-off with the basics just a sheer/medium coverage fluid foundation.. pat it all over u're face and blend really well.. go over with a pressed powder that's the same color as u're foundation.

Line u're eyes with kohl or use an eye pencil on u're lash-line.. apply a blush that suits u're skin-tone and lipstick!

Re: Must-haves of every make-up bag

For me makeup must haves in my bag include:

Powder by Lancome - I use Photogenique I believe.

Sunscreen by Clinique I wear SPF 40 but they also have SPF 20 - if you have sensitive skin or acne prone skin like I do...having a good sunscreen is crucial. Ask Gina. :)

Mascara - Voluminous by Loreal and sometimes Diorshow

Kajal

Blush - not a highly pigmented one...something peachy or pink is fine for me.

Lips I just use chapstick and a very subtle pink lipstick. Lancome has great ones.

Dior Skinflash - This stuff is amazing. A guppy exposed to me to it and Ive been hooked ever since! (Btw, where is stoppit these days?) You can put it anywhere but I put it under my eyes. Brightens up the face without too much. And its easy to use, its a pen so you just apply it in the area you want and blend blend blend! I dont use it everyday but when I do it makes a difference.

In the beginning, when I didnt know what I was doing, I used tinted moisturizers because there isnt too much guess work involved and you can build your skill to foundation-level. Those are the best to start with, in my opinion.

Im looking for a new foundation these days...Clinique has been good to me so far but maybe its time for a change. Im going to try Bobbi Brown and let everyone know how it turns out.

Re: Must-haves of every make-up bag

mac eyeliner, mac studio fix, mac blush, a brush, clinique lip gloss, chapstick, lancome mascara, eyelash curler, a nail filer (that i never use haha)

Re: Must-haves of every make-up bag

oh and for blush.. go with coppertone from mac.
all the things i listed are appropriate for starters=]

Re: Must-haves of every make-up bag

studio f/x powder from mac
loreal voluminous mascara
basic eyeliners in black, brown, navy, olive, and grey
a lash curler
loreal's hip duo eyeshadows in turqoise/navy, and lime green/grey (i use the turqoise and the lime green to line the inside of my eye (like you'd use kajal) for a pop of color, every now and then)
my favourite mac lipstick in a rosy pink shade. its medium, so not too dark and not too light and it smells awesome and i wore it on my wedding day and i'm always reminded me of that (altogether now, awww, haha), and my other favourite loreal lipstick in pale pinky-brown

Re: Must-haves of every make-up bag

This is what I usually carry:

MAC studio fix powder
MAC blush brush
eyelash curler
L'oreal volumnious
Lipliner, mac lipstick and lipglass.

Am not really a blush person, but I think am gonna invest in one now.

Re: Must-haves of every make-up bag

I don't wear makeup on everyday basis so I don't carry anything besides a VS gloss or eye pencil. Other than that, moisturizer with spf, baby wipes and chapstick are must haves especially during winter time.

Re: Must-haves of every make-up bag

A lipstick, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, and moisturizer...(dont wear makeup that often...lipstick does wonders... gives a polished look....)
*i wear eye makeup for going out on the weekends...so no need carrying it around daily..

pick a feature....for some people the eyes are more important..and for others..its the lips....I wouldnt do both since it looks over done...for everyday wear...

I carry a concealer (small travel size) - makeup forever
Bobbi Brown, pressed powder
Kohl - Guerlain
Lipstick - Mac ( I usually have one light and one dark)

oh need I mention my vaseline pot? Vaseline's a must have with my dry lips ¬¬

Re: Must-haves of every make-up bag

Re: Must-haves of every make-up bag

Every one here seem to like only MAC products, i heard its very nice, but its expensice too rite? i haven't chk the price for there foundation,

but just bought l'Oreal product,
i bought
1. concelor
2. foundation
3. blusher
4. finish.

all four product are" Bare natural gentle mineral makeup"
i haven't used it jus went try them on my skin n bought.
it seem good cuz has brush on the bottle.
the lady in the store said that i must use all four products step by step so i jus bought.

But here everyone talks about mac, no one likes LOREAL???
if they use how do they find it.
and has anyone bought and used this mineral makeup? how did they find it?
