A quick look at history confirms that Mushy and Inzi did have brushes with match fixing in the past.
Were they actually guilty of fixing themself? Obviously that was never proven and they were never punished for it. But even the most charitable of viewers would agree that they were involved in questionable activities.
The question is, has the PCB and by extension the ICC been light on people that have any connection with match fixing in the past? In light of recent activities, why did a man like Mushtaq - of questionable character - have anything to do with our World Cup team. Why did we allow people who have some stain (even if it was’nt a big mark) to have such power over our team. The board should have an absolute zero tolerance policy on such matters. We are certainly paying the price of these ovesights with Bob’s death and our exit from the World Cup. Numerous published sources are now indicating that there is a possability that the Pakistan-Ireland match may have had some elements of match fixing and that suspicious betting took place on this match in Mumbai prior to the opening of the World Cup.
I don't think match fixing was involved in this WC and that Pakistan lost because of their own ignorance and incompetence of the board.
Let me repeat. This is not yet completely substantiated, but various print media sources are now stating that evidence exists of suspicious wagers placed on the Pakistan - Ireland game PRIOR to the World Cup. This would certainly be a huge bit of proof towards wrong doing on the Paksitanis teams part during the match in question.
Again, this takes us back to the issue:
Why were Mushtaq and Inzi so powerfull on the team considering they had brushes with match fixing in the past.
I don't think match fixing was involved in this WC and that Pakistan lost because of their own ignorance and incompetence of the board.
Agreed.
Why did Pakistan and India lose and fail to enter super 8?
The answer is not quite easy but yet at the same time not too difficult. They both failed to adjust to the new format in which OUTPUT was required from the word "GO". Only 3 matches to play to get qualified and 1 - 2 teams of any significance to beat in the Group matches. Yet their inability to be consistently at the top of their games led them to lose enough matches in the group stages and hence get knocked out from the tournament completely.
The internal politics or mismanagement as it applies seperately to both teams, also contributed a great deal in diffusing the mental focus and determination that was ever so present in the other younger or more hungrier and focussed sides. Now, that complete disarray has taken hold of the boards and team managements, frustrated and guilt ridden Mr. so and so's are trying to find excuses for coming to terms with the catastrophe. And what else can be the most attention drawing rhetoric, then the cry wolf approach of "Match Fixing".
