So the news report which surfaced a while ago and Najam Sethi’s source proved to be correct (MQM had denied it earlier but now confirmed the resignation and abeyance). Sources say he is in hiding in Venezuela. Did he escape his boori (MQM body bag)? Mustafa Kamal has submitted his resignation, MQM confirms – The Express Tribune
****KARACHI: **Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) confirmed in a statement on Sunday that Mustafa Kamal had submitted his resignation from the Senate seat to the party but said that it had not been accepted yet, Express News reported.
The party said that the former mayor of Karachi was not in Pakistan and had notified the party leadership before leaving.
“Kamal had requested temporary time off from party duties and MQM had approved of his request,” stated the Rabita Committee.
The press release refuted claims of a rift between Kamal and other members of the party and said that he had gone abroad because of personal problems.
MQM said that Kamal’s efforts for the improvement of Karachi were appreciated.
“MQM chief Altaf Hussain wishes his personal problems get resolved soon so that he can return to party duties,” concluded the statement.
Re: Mustafa Kamal of MQM Resigns and Left Pakistan - MQM Confirms
^ I don't know the details but expecting Rabta committee to admit to anything controversial is a bit naive.
What I meant is that it could really be a genuine situation. At least the rabita committee bayan indicates that MQM is leaving the doors open for him to come back. Altaf or Rabita committee was under no obligation to say that we want him to come back .... They could have just said that we wish him good luck and that is it.
I think that the guy was gaining more popularity then other senior members and that must be intimidating. Maybe this is MQM's way to keep him out of the scene for some time so others can get a chance.

MK was a threat for the party leadership and AH. He and Anees Qaimkhani were under pressure for sometimes.
He was deemed as an alternate, if anything happened to AH (in Scotland Yard's investigation) and was pro moderation in the party ranks.
Its good that he distanced from the party affairs, otherwise we all know the fate of other challengers.
Re: Mustafa Kamal of MQM Resigns and Left Pakistan - MQM Confirms
Also the story behind Amir Khan's pardon is very interesting. How he approached AH and was told to keep quiet until the right time. He had no other choice to be alive in Karachi, and AH wanted to use him to run the street game for which he is famous for. There are fundamental issues between MK and AH on the soft image MK had been managed to create under Musharraf's blessings for the party. He wanted to carry it further, but little does he know that without constant source of revenue (which Babur Ghauri managed through Shipping Ministry very well) a party full of thugs will not survive, so old trade of extortion is the only option for them. MQM might not enjoy the ideal shelter provided by dictator in last decade again. Therefore, running a party cleanly is challenging without govt support.

Here goes the ex-world class #2 super duper mayor in the dark alley. He was the one who opened the doors to killers of his uncle Azim Tariq.
I wonder how much he amassed from 500 billions spent on Karachi projects during his tenure as mayor? He has a foreign wife and living in a foreign country perhaps on loot form Pakistan. Perhaps Quaid-e-Azam would have second thought about Pakistan had he known what kind of monsters he was leaving Pakistan to?

Why wouldn’t MQM still try to remain associated with someone like Mustafa Kemal? It’s a very good PR tactic. I don’t think Mustafa Kemal is excited to be called an MQM man anymore. However, MQM certainly benefits from still being seen as a party that produce someone like Mustafa Kemal. By issuing such positive statements, they are just doing some much needed damage control and playing at the supporters and voters who were only interested in MQM due to Mustafa Kemal.

It looks like things are getting out of control of Altaf. Earlier Altaf had to make sweeping changes in members of Tanzeemi Committee and also Rabita Committee. There were many MQM workers who were even involved in sectarian killings on behalf of SSP.
When Altaf announced major changes in the party he severely criticized senior members of the two committees.. I remember Farooq Sattar's face shown on TV at that time. He looked confused and worried.
Based on what we have been seeing, I think things will settle down somewhere different pretty soon.
I agree. It could just be a PR, though mqm never played that pr game in case of Aamir Liaquat who was also at the peak of his career and fame when he left MQM.
Btw I dont follow mqm a lot, but interested to know of the real reason of Kamal leaving mqm, if indeed there is a reason.
Re: Mustafa Kamal of MQM Resigns and Left Pakistan - MQM Confirms
Though I do admit that it is a good thing that Geo or Amir liaqat brought together alims of different sects in his program, Amir Liaqat still was nothing compared to Mustafa Kamal who actually did something for Karachi.
As for sachay, Mustafa kamal might be as "guilty" as zardari and bhuttos, which in all honesty means he is not "guilty" at all... :D
Karachi’s mayor, Syed Mustafa Kamal, considers these ethnic Pashtuns a threat. In his eyes, they are plotting to take over the city. “These Pashtuns means like fundamentalist — religiously fundamentalist, religiously extremist,” Kamal says. “They are coming in. When it comes to ethnicity, when it comes to Islam they all are … the same.”
The mayor gives a tour of the area, driving past squatter neighborhoods and Islamic schools. He passes the area where the journalist Daniel Pearl was found slain. And he points out the window at a bearded man.
“The man who’s coming in front of you … look at him, look at his face,” Kamal says.
The mayor says he is convinced that Pashtuns are planning the locations of the illegal housing settlements. He says they are choosing strategic spots that block his own plans for the city.
“It’s a very strategic location, you see?” Kamal asks. “The superhighway is there. They can control the whole highway. … They had a master plan before me. And they definitely have a master plan.”
Speaking with several residents of the city’s new settlements, it’s clear that not all are Pashtuns. And they seemed to have no master plan beyond their next meal.
Two of the first residents in the desert neighborhood were outside on their knees cutting firewood. They hacked it out of scraggly bushes they’d found.
