Muslims' relations with Jews/Christians

O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust. (The Qur’an -Full Text In English Surah Al-Ma’ida 5:51)

you think they havent read it?

Are you kidding me. George Bush and Ariel Sharon are the only true friends of Musharraf and of the indeginous people of Pakistan.

PakistaniDragon:

I guess Quran is contradicting itself again. On one hand it says to marry christians and jews. Calls them people of the book and all, and then here it says they are not friends.

Here's a warning to all self righteous monomaniacs, including all who use this passage to justify their hatred of others: it was written 1400 years ago to address a certain people from a certain time and certain place.

^ can you tell us when, where and who, it was addressed to?

:jazak:

Bahhh Bahhhhhh

any scholar care to add on to a few pages before and a few pages after these quoted surhas to put things in context here :)

it would be nice to read when these surahs were revealed, what were the circumstances and referring to what series of events.

shabaash, someone get that for me.

^ And Munkareen will always deny the truth (12:13)

^ chup bay (2:19 CST)

something to note, when the first muslims emigrated due to persecution, they sought protection in abbasynia, then ruled by a christian king, Al Najashi.

ps-why is utd crying?

Not crying, just mocking anyone who uses a 1400 year old book to justify not befriending someone because of their religious status, they have as much thinking ability as a dim witted sheep!

Maybe the meaning is restricted by v.57 which follows a few lines later...

"O you who believe! do not take for friends and protectors those who take your religion for a mockery and a joke, from among those who were given the Book before you and the unbelievers; and be careful of (your duty to) Allah if you are believers."

??

One needs to learn the history to understand the enimosity they have for the last Abrahamic religioin.

Watch out RBC Ministeries' documentary from Day of Dicovery serieces: Crusades, The war in the name of God. Contact them at www.rbc.net and they will send you a free copy. You would know Muslims' treatment with the Christians and Jews living under their rule and how Christians treated not only Muslims but Jews and Christians living in Jerusalem when they conquered it first during the first Crusades. Its created by Christians and they have confessed the crimes that they have commited during that time. Also that Muslim's raised the bar of minority rights so high that no other empire could match them. Let alone the barbaric crusaders. This is today's Human rights champion talking not a biased Muslim media.

Things were never the same (after Crusades) between Islam and Romanized Chritianity. However Ottoman's empire continued the great tradition of Islam to take good care of its minority communities. Even when Romans would attack on boundry villages, Chrisitan poor villiagers would prefere to live under Islamic estate where they will have more peace and safety as on the other side of the border, looting, rapes and masacares by the hands of their own fellow Chrisitian Roman soldiers were very common.

When you use the word "they", it sounds too general and encompasses every christian and jew. I will tend to agree with gupguppy. Also read Ma Mooli's post on the christian King of Abbasynia, where muslims went for protection on the instructions of the Prophet (Peace be upon him). The context and guidance is from verse 51 to 59 (and beyond) and should be read completely.

Smoothie, Quran was revealed before the Crusades you knucklehead.

Sir I said, since Crusades the intensity in ties between two religions have increased. Before it had never been Christianity vs Islam or Judaism vs Islam. The verse might have been indicating the Crusades in the future, some 300 years later. There must have been something which Allah warned us about. After all it were Jews who attempted to kill several prophets and rejecting any revealition that was not sent directly towards them.

Madhanee, chup karke betha rahe khamoshi se. We are not talking about Mirja here. Its not ur business.

i think you are right! :k:

Smoothy. Oh OK, you are talking about crap, sorry to have butted in. But you are the only phuddo who believes that al_Moaida was revealed keeping Crusades in mind. Did you ever go to a school (other than Maddrassah that is)? :k:
