So my boss wants to take our team out for lunch in order to celebrate completing a project. He wants to do it in Sept and asked me if I would be able to join in. I said nope, since I am fasting this month. He proposed the team goes ahead with their lunch plan without me, and will hold another one when I am finished with fasting. Now it’d have been all hunky dory if I hadn’t blurted out, “Oh! I wont be fasting next week, why not hold it then?”. He said, “Really? I thought Muslims fast for one whole month.” Upon realizing he hasn’t got the slightest clue about Islam or what I was alluding to, I decided to stretch the… gulp…lie a bit further. Not intentionally though, more like scrambling to cover the over-sharing part.
Anyways, I ended up saying that Muslims don’t fast when its the full moon. Next week is full moon, I don’t have to fast, and can join in the lunch. All the while I had a huge grin on due to extreme embarrassment. It was funny though, to see them all looking at the calendar, spotting the full moon, which was luckily on the same week I mentioned.
Now imagine if anyone of these people go up to a Muslim and say, “So you guys don’t fast during the full moon, huh?” and that Muslim will wonder what kind of lunatic Muslim they have been hanging out with.
So guys, it’ll be considered an innocuous lie, wouldn’t it? Everybody, please agree!
By the way, I shared the real reason with my female collegues…so there was *some *damage control.
What is your question ?
I guess you could share the real reason with this comment I would not be fasting next week because of some womenly reasons , and they would understand ? Would your boss and other be not less trusting of you if they found out that you made up stuff ?
May be yes may be not depends on who you are dealing with.
Yay thanks alot!!!..so if they ask why we can’t fast on full moons, we should say because due to the tendency of breaking out into a howling pack of warewolves wanting to ravage fleshy food???
