The reason behind quota for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes was to bring them out of backwardness due to social reasons. For backward castes, it was to bring them out of backwardness due to the economic reasons. Those Muslim castes (a paradox in Islam, which stands for equality - nevertheless in south Asia/India, this exists) which suffer backwardness due to economic reasons are provided reservations under the backward quota. In addition the Indian Constitution provides for the setting up of educational institutions for / by minority communities, where they can practically set all the rules like the quotas etc. The demand for additional 'Muslim quota' is not fair and also not very useful as the government jobs are already shrinking. The solution lies in bringing up more institutions like the Aligadh Muslim University. More and better education can set things right much faster than the additional quotas.
