Odd question I know but I was wondering whether there are any muslim names relating to water or aquatic or rain themes
Re: Muslims names - aquatic
There’s a name in parenting called Aabrish, meaning either plain rain or Rehmat ki bearish. And I knew a Bangladeshi Muslim named sawan meaning rain. Kausar is a stream in heaven and a common Muslin name too.
Re: Muslims names - aquatic
There are a few names in Dari and Pashto that are water-related:
Dari
Darya (دریا) – Girl’s name, which means “sea”
Daryanaz (دریاناز) – Girl’s name, meaning “glory of the sea”
Sadaf (صدف) – Girl’s name, which translates to either “sea shell” or “pearl”
Pashto
Samandar (سمندر) – Boy’s name, meaning “ocean”
Tanim (تنيم) – Boy’s name, which means “wave of sea"
Lalma (للمه) – Girl’s name, which translates to “dependent on the rain”
Tanima (تنيمه) – Feminine form of Tanim, has same meaning as the masculine form

Darya means river… ![]()
Daryanaz means… glory of river
Samandar = ocean = sea… ![]()
Darya is not river in Dari but ocean/sea?
Re: Muslims names - aquatic
Does it? I know in Pashto “Darya” translates literally into river. I always thought the Dari meaning was closer to sea, although I have even heard it translated as “stream/brook” before.
Re: Muslims names - aquatic
Urdu takes Persian words… Dari is an accent of Persian…
In Urdu, Darya means… River… (stream )
Re: Muslims names - aquatic
Darya’s a beautiful name.. going to save that one ![]()
Re: Muslims names - aquatic
Aab e Zamzam is Islamic name… ![]()
Are you expecting baby boy or girl…
Darya - boy
Daryanaz - girl…
Re: Muslims names - aquatic
That’s interesting. Interestingly, in Dari, I’ve heard it translated as “stream/brook.” I’ve heard Persians (Iranis) translate it as “sea” though, so I figured that may have been closer. Hmm ![]()
Darya is supposedly androgenous. I’ve met both men and women with that name, but more women for some reason.

Re: Muslims names - aquatic
Aabrish means rain…came across it in here a while back and I like it. I am also into names that mean rain.
Re: Muslims names - aquatic
Oohps, I didn’t see that you mentioned the same name as well.
I personally am of the opinion that Aabrish simply means rain…and not Rehmat ki baarish. Because there is no prefix or suffix in the name that indicates mercy or rehmat. Aab means pani, and the “brish” part likely comes from baarish. So unless the word baarish has any linguistic connections to mercy/rehmat…then this name only means rain. And, I’m okay with that. What bothers me though is that some people and even websites exaggerate the meanings of the name.
