Wherever I visit Pakistan, the immense popularity of Zee TV in average homes greatly surprises me. A generous view of this loyalty to Indian pop culture can explain this phenomenon in the following manner:

The average Pakistani compartmentalizes his/her hateful attitude towards India and the fascination with the usually tasteless and cheap Indian movies and programme in the belief that culture and entertainment know no boundaries. However, when I had an opportunity to see a new Zee TV movie entitled ‘Ghadar’ I came to the sad conclusion that this attraction at any cost is more due to lack of self-respect and dignity than anything else.

Various Muslim organizations in India have vigorously protested ‘Ghadar’ for its unabashed anti-Pakistan and anti-Muslim bias. Even Shabana Azami, the great Indian actress who is a staunch proponent of ‘national integration’, has denounced this movie.

It is loosely based on the real life story of ‘Shaheed-e-Mohabbat’ Boota Singh which it distorts maliciously to suit the avowed purpose of maligning Muslims and Pakistan. The movie ‘Ghadar’ would have been a great love story if the producers would have stuck to the true story.

The movie starts with the unsubstantiated assertion that the large scale massacres of Hindus in Pakistan were the catalyst for the wholesale carnage that followed. From there the movie proceeds evenly until the middle when it descends into a frenzy of anti-Muslim and anti-Pakistan propaganda of the cheapest kind.

Zee TV is a world-wide network. It presents Pakistani dramas, Pakistani news read by Pakistani anchors and should not be the mouthpiece of bigots. It behoves the management of the network to strive for creating an atmosphere of understanding among the Indians and Pakistanis rather than fanning the flames of bigotry and hatred by producing such crass and patently shameless propaganda films.

If the management refuses to pay any attention to the feelings of millions of its Pakistani and Muslim viewers, our self-respect demands that Pakistanis boycott this network by not cooperating in the production of Zee TV Pakistan news and presentation of plays and cancelling their subscription to the cable programs.

Lets not mix entertainment with politics....both are mutually exclusive....

Re: muslims must boycott anti muslim media like zee tv

Rukhsarbibi do they have any drama with a title "kunkai Arjun bhi pichlay janam main bender tha’'?

Re: muslims must boycott anti muslim media like zee tv

I agree. The Pak govt decision to ban that crap channel way back in 2002 was a step in the right direction. It's such a God damn sucky, cheesy, tasteless channel - I mean you look at PTV plays compared to the crap Zee turns out, they are eons ahead in terms of relevance to reality and then they are so damn decent. I dont know who in their right mind would watch the kind of insane stuff Zee shows like "Saas bhi Rocket Scientist Hai" and so on...

Re: muslims must boycott anti muslim media like zee tv

Re: muslims must boycott anti muslim media like zee tv
