Muslims in facade..?

Last night was the grand finale of spectacular fire-works in Vancouver - an event that takes place each year. Considering the magnetism of the event, it’s given that hundreds of thousands of people come to watch.

Last night, before the event, I and my wife were having pizza at a local halal parlor. A girl came in and asked the owner if she could use the washroom. The owner who was fully dressed in hijab flatly refused. The girl asked again..‘Please, I really have to go..’, but had to leave after the owner didn’t budge. I felt disappointed it was a bit unnecessaary. I can understand lots of folks wanting to use the washroom, but, still I felt that the girl was in urgent need, and the lady should have showed some compassion - as a Muslim - to say the least.

It doesn’t end here. We left the place few mins later, and after walking couple of blocks, I saw the same girl being ticketed by couple of Police officers. Even though, she seemed really clean-cut, but I couldn’t blame her. I guess she tried to relieve herself somewhere uncanonical..

Now, back to that pizza owner, I am not sure whether it was an individual case of bad-judgement or bias or someone trying to protect her business, but if you are dressed up as a complete Muslim with a beard or covered in head-to-toe in hijab, shouldn’t that person be a bit more compassionate..?

Re: Muslims in facade..?

Hmmm......

Re: Muslims in facade..?

Interesting.

That's sad, she got ticketed coz they wouldn't let her use the washroom. That's just plain mean.

Anyway, as much as peopel here would love to believ,e a hijab/beard doens't make one any more compassionate or angelic or sweet. Just as the owner in your xample, they can be just as hardassed and mean as a non-hijabi/non-bearded guy :)

Re: Muslims in facade..?

I agree. Even the munafiqoon can wear jihab or keep a beard. So the outer appearance of a person is not what makes him/her more closer to Allah.

Re: Muslims in facade..?

Generalization.

Let me give you a counter example:
A group of us friends were out and about. We left this place and walked to the cars. Because of the parking situation in the city, we had to park our cars 1/2 mile away from the venue. Well, after a few blocks of walking, one of the girls informed us that she had to go. There were no McDonalds in sight where she could go quickly. We spotted a hotel and walked in to talk to the concierge. The girl pleaded with the man to let her use the 'ladies room'. Now, here is a professional of a hospitality industry, dressed in a suit, and here is this stunner asking him for using the restroom.

Guess what? The concierge refused and he asked her to leave!

He was a professional of a hospitality industry. Shouldn't he have helped her too?

Re: Muslims in facade..?

It happens all the time in places like Murree & other hill stations when you visit during the peak season. Really sad, Im telling you, really sad. At least in Dubai, this is taken care of.

Re: Muslims in facade..?

Likely, the situations can't be compared. The concierge maybe bound 'strictly' by the guidelines of the premise as opposed to the lady who herself owns the shop and has full authority or there could be another reason.

But that's not the point; if you reflect and aspire to be a true Muslim in attire, then at least prove it to some degree with your actions. This was a classic case of bad-decision based on personal prejudice and stinginess..and that's what tantamounts to lack of compassion expected from a true believer..

Re: Muslims in facade..?

^ Yeah but who says beard/hijab = true believer? Again its just a stereotype. Don't listen to ppl who say that all women who wear hijab are pious, perfect angels. If it wer ethat easy, to determine if someone is a good or bad person based on how they look..

Re: Muslims in facade..?

Exactly.....Sara jee ne karoro ki baat kahi hai. If hijab/beard were to be the criterion for true believers, then even the worst munafiqoon would be called true believers. It rather your taqwa, imaan and actions that makes you a true believer and not appearance.

Re: Muslims in facade..?

abdulah K u said yourself that there were hundreds of thousands of ppl..who do u say yes to and who do u say no to. many places have a blanket policy..washrooms for customers only. Heck happens in euope happens in NYC, happens in Pakistan. I have been in such situations and have bought a soda and used the restroom.

before you know it, ppl know that such and such is letting ppl use the restroom, more ppl start showing up.. u say yes to a few when u say no..ppl get upset..it gets late and drunk louts start showing up messing up the facilities...harassing customers...or at minimum making them wait to use the facilities because there is a line..

If you have owned or worked at a retail place which is situated around some event as such you know the issues. compassion or no compassion

Re: Muslims in facade..?

........Beard or hijab cant hold TAQWA......but the HEART......

Re: Muslims in facade..?

the most compassionate and tolerant people are rarely the most "religious"...cause religion is based on arrogance of being the only "chosen people" to have true belief in an ocean of miserable unbelievers

Re: Muslims in facade..?

I wouldn't argue with parissenoor's logic:)

Re: Muslims in facade..?

i have no logic i am a mad scientist :clown:

Re: Muslims in facade..?

I don’t think this situation have anything to do with muslims/ Islam or any religion…

my it could be there biz policy … many biz don’t let use public their facilities especially
when they are not even there customers :naraz:

Re: Muslims in facade..?

Only wearing hijab and beard don't make you a muslim...we want more...howzaaaaat... :D

Re: Muslims in facade..?

What that lady should have done would be to buy something at the pizza place and then ask, as a paying customer, to use the restrooms.

Her fault for being too cheap to buy something that shhe got ticketed. I dislike abusing the customer washrooms even at McDonalds like this. I will buy a milkshake if I intend to use their washroom.

Re: Muslims in facade..?

Yeah, I do that, i go to starbucks or mcdonalds, ill buy something.. Dollar menu :D

Re: Muslims in facade..?

Or just go inside, grab a napkin from a customer who is eating there and while asking to use the washroom, use the napkin giving them the impression that ur a customer who already ate.

Ofcourse this can only happen if the restaurant is kinda busy and the ppl working there don’t pay a lot of attention to u.

Re: Muslims in facade..?

Best way is ... buy something and use the restroom!
