I am completely in agreement with queer. Until Muslims can learn to accept all of humanity, we will never be united. It is easier to unite a subset if the set itself is united as well. Perfect example is with lethal's answer... that in order for him to unite with all humanity the prerequisite is that they must believe what he believes. Such thinking (in my own opinion) is counter-intuitive to our task. We may be nice to one another as humans, while believing different things. Thus humanity will unite, and by extension Muslims will unite.
I belive islam is solution and offers unity for all humankind.
Most people on these forums from indian subcontinent and we know how the people lived a life under islam, people where not converted to islam by the sword as some liars try to portray. If that was true you would not have 800 million hindus in India today!
I think opposite is happening, the muslims are becoming united the days of the brutal and corrupt rulers are over they where the main obstacles to our unity.
You have to realise the corrupt rulers and western governments do not want the muslim united as a ummah or a power because then they know it will be the end of them especially american colonialism.
The reality is that the Muslim world is becoming polarised. Those who used to be religious we're never that religious and those who were not religious we're not irreligious. Today, people are becoming either hedonists or zealots or Alhumdillah ... They are gaining the true spirit ... The diffused variety of Muslim is going away. People are becoming educated, that education is bringing them a sense of awareness either in their own selfish desires, or in their reaction to injustices through other injustices and by letting go and actually trusting in their Lord.
We are being polarised in three directions ... Let it be the one of Haq that we are on ...
Oliveir Roy, who is a French researcher, has done some interesting research on political Islam and mentality of Muslims in general. He talks about the illusion and the virtual world of "brotherhood" that we have built around us while turning a blind eye towards the facts and realities. A most recent example is U.A.E and Qatar and their contributions in the bombing and killings of the Libyans. Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's repression of the Bahrainis. Muslim leaders and their support for Israel to run over Lebanon and America's invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. Muslim countries not only do not post any challenge to the neo colonial powers but in fact they are arguably their strongest allies and supporters.
One could argue that those are the acts of the individuals of power and authority and not of the general populace. And that is a valid point to some degree. But the concept of one Ummah and nation seems to be only used when it is needed by the Muslim leaders. It is hardly ever found at the centre of policy making by these countries. In fact these ideals are violated by them more severely than ever.

In middle east people want islamic solutions right now. tunisia, egypt, libya all of them the people had to be duped by secualr parties using islamic slogans or promises of islamic law.
central asia they facing brutal crackdown on anyone calling for islamic laws
in pakistan you can see even secular Imran khan party had to use words like islamic justice or islamic laws just to get support from people.
You are correct people getting educated and realise it is not this mullah cartoon type character we after, they looking in fine detail what is islamic state its rules its regulations and how it will deal with peoples affairs. It is only matter of time before we see the real islamic state rise up only question is which will be first place to raise the shahadah flag?
