Have you experienced difficulty or discrimination in getting jobs, promotions, work experience, education as a muslim when you are a minority and had others favoured before you, given more help or given the job with lesser qualifications and experience than yourself or those you know? Now with the current economic climate with even fewer jobs and more graduates etc… do you expect things to get worse or are you optimistic about your or your family and friends futures?

I find it hard to find a job, I don't know if it's because of my qualifications or the way I look or because of my religion/ethnicity.

I find the people who are given managerial positions or coached to become managers are English whites usually ... There is a very definite trend that seems to want to subdue ethnics to subordinate roles in larger companies of the UK, despite there being many who can do the job blindly.

Agreed. Then they wonder why many open their own small businesses or become taxi drivers.

I’m in the UK and I’ve definitely experienced discrimination when I started. I thought after gaining years of experience and providing some very good results in my work I would be on an even platform with others but that’s not the case, I even have a masters now. After months of interviews and agency visits I found job which other people with my experience and results would not even consider.

I'll be honest while discrimination does exist the last thing you should do is back down or retreat becuase of it...
theres actually a lot of discrimintation but also a lot of oppurtunity too even in politics where parties jump to snap up a ethnic candidate, and even the army where I was told they were haters of my type... I found it quite calm.
I think it depends on ones own outward spirit.

One general comment about those who inquirer about this chat. First of all you need to take the initiative. I noticed that 15 minutes into start of the chat some were trying to figure out how to get into the chat. When someone was offering advice to help it was Upton those who would have benefitted to
1) find out exact time in advance
2) find out details about how to join in advance.
This reflects poor preparation. That is something one can and should work on.

True ... Planning is key to being successful ... having the guts to see it through and self belief without being arrogant

I live in ME and haven't seen such issue. However they prefer to give job to first their national than others regardless to their religious belief.
