Have a READ…

"Over the last 2 years, Muslims have been getting way more than their fair share coverage in the media. Besides the usual "terrorist" and "Islamic fundamentalist" junk in the news, Muslims have also been features in numerous films and t.v. shows.
The following, examples illustrate the "high regard" that Hollywood producers and TV networks have for MUslim women, especially those in NIQAAB.

In the movie, "Billboard Dad" , an Olsen twins movie for kids and pre-teens, the twins arrange numerous blind dates for their single father. In one scene, he's shown sitting across from one of these blind dates-a woman in a black niqaab and he compliments her w/ the line "YOU have nice eyes"

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/rolleyes.gif

In another movie, this time for adults, called "the Bachelor", the main character has one day to get married in order to inherit 10 million Dollars$. His friend advertises for possible brides in the newspaper and hundreds of women show up **in a church** wearing white wedding dresses, hoping to be the chosen one.

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/disgust.gif

One of the women is wearing a niqaab and she asks the guy looking to get married if religion is an issue for him--though it obviously isn't for her!

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/eek.gif

If it isn't already bad enough to see women in niqaab going on dates w/ or begging to marry non-muslim men, as well as being used for comedy in films, TELL-LIE-VISION(tv) has gone a step further.
On an episode of a tv drama which deals w/ the stock market, a Muslim woman in niqaab comes to America on business. She impresses the NON-Muslims w/ her financial know-how and one of the men finds himself fantacizing about her and what she must look like under all the layers of clothes!! He asks her out and she goes w/ him and even sleeps w/ him!(La-ho-la-wala-quwa'ta)..@ the end of the show, she comes off as the villain by bragging about how impressed the girls back home will be that she had an American man. With an "Assalamu Alaikum" she departs leaving behind the "poor" guy who feels used!!
All of these examples are derogatory and degrading towards MUslim women. It's pathetic that many ppl in this country have no respect for religion, even their own ie. how many films and commercials poke fun @nuns, but in these examples, we can see the worst type of representation of a Muslimah's character. Another thing to realize is that this propagandais aimed @ ppl from all age groups. Believe it or not, even a show which I would have considered harmless called "Arthur" also puts down the Muslim Women. In this very popular cartoon, there is a scene where a character is helping her mother to choose an outfit for parent-teacher interview night. The family had travelled all over the world, so the mother modelled many international clothes for the girl to approve or disapprove. She even tried on a hijaab and Jilbaab, which caused the girl to say in Disgust "NOt That!" It was such a brief scene, but it gives us a great understanding of the views ppl have about us, when even a show that is meant to teach kids morals, promotes the mocking or insulting of how we dress!!

Ok so the issue is related with TV. Unfortunately almost everyone these dayz has TV at their home

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/frown.gif

. Here is the Ruling for watching TV.
http://216.205.122.233/index.php?ln=eng&ds=qa&lv=browse&QR=3633

Praise be to Allaah.

The issue of watching films is not free from numerous reservations from a shar’i point of view, such as uncovering ‘awraat, listening to music, spreading corrupt beliefs and calling for imitation of the kuffaar. Allaah has commanded us to lower our gaze, as He says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts). That is purer for them. Verily, Allâh is All-Aware of what they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts)” [al-Noor 24:30-31].

Since lowering the gaze is the basis of protecting the private parts, it is mentioned first. Allaah has made the eyes the reflection of the heart: if a person lowers his gaze, the desire in his heart will be reduced, but if a person looks and stares, the desire in his heart will be provoked.

In Saheeh Muslim (1218) it is reported that Al-Fadl ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) was riding behind the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) on the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Nahr) from Muzdalifah to Mina, when some women riding on camel-borne sedan chairs passed by. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) turned his [al-Fadl’s] head away. This was prevention and denunciation through action, for if looking were permissible he would have approved of what he did.

In Saheeh al-Bukhaari (6343) it is reported that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Every son of Adam has his share of zinaa decreed for him, and he will undoubtedly get his share. The eye commits zinaa and its zinaa is looking. The tongue commits zinaa and its zinaa is speaking; the feet commit zinaa and their zinaa is walking; the hands commit zinaa and their zinaa is touching. The heart longs and desires for something and the private parts confirm that or deny it.”

He began by mentioning the eye because this is how the zinaa of the hand, foot, heart and private parts begins. By mentioning the zinaa of the tongue, he pointed out that the mouth can commit zinaa by speaking. And he stated that the private parts can confirm that if they make the deed happen, or deny it if that does not happen.

This hadeeth gives the clearest indication that the eye can sin by looking and that this is its zinaa. This is a refutation to those who say that looking is allowed in all circumstances.

It was also reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “O ‘Ali, do not follow a look with a second, for the first look is allowable but not the second.”

A look has the same effect on the heart as an arrow has on its victim. If it does not kill him, it will wound him. It is like a spark of fire in dried grass; if it does not burn all of it, it will still burn some of it. May Allaah have mercy on the one who said:

“Everything starts with a look, and big fires start from little sparks.

How often has a heart been dealt a fatal blow like that of an arrow, with no need for a bow.

As long as a man’s eyes are looking around, looking into the eyes of others, he is in a state of danger.

His eye delights in that which could destroy his heart. The joy that may lead to harm is not welcome.”

Hence Shaykh Ibn Baaz (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in al-Fataawa 3/227:

With regard to television, it is a dangerous device and its harmful effects are very great, like those of the cinema, or even worse. We know from the research that has been written about it and from the words of experts in Arab countries and elsewhere enough to indicate that it is dangerous and very harmful to Islamic beliefs (‘aqeedah), morals and the state of society. This is because it includes the presentation of bad morals, tempting scenes, immoral pictures, semi-nakedness, destructive speech, and Kufr. It encourages imitation of their conduct and ways of dressing, respect for their leaders, neglect of Islamic conduct and ways of dressing, and looking down on the scholars and heroes of Islam. It damages their image by portraying them in an off-putting manner that makes people despise them and ignore them. It shows people how to cheat, steal, hatch plots and commit acts of violence against others. Undoubtedly anything that produces so many bad results should be stopped and shunned, and we have to close all the doors that could lead to it. If some of our brothers denounce it and speak out against it, we cannot blame them, because this is a part of sincerity towards Allaah and towards other people.

Whoever thinks that this device (TV) can be free of these evils and can be used only for good purposes if it is censored properly is exaggerating and is making a big mistake, because the censor may miss things and most people nowadays want to imitate the foreigners. It is very rare to find censors who are doing their job properly, especially nowadays when most people are only interested in time-wasting entertainment and things that turn people away from true guidance. Reality bears witness to that.

We ask Allaah to keep us safe from all evil for He is the Most Generous.

“Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allaah — Islamic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allaah verily, in the remembrance of Allaah do hearts find rest

[al-Ra’d 13:28]

Ok… this is extremely upsetting me.
What has this media degraded us to…
especially our sisters. What really upsets me
is the show about the stock market and the niqaab
girl sleeping with a white-man. After some
research, the show was the $treet which has been
cancelled after that show. Ironically,
the show was shown during Ramadhan.
The media should not be blamed but the woman
who played the role should. Her name is Samia
Shoaib, born in Pakistan, raised in the UK, and studied in the U.S. Coincidentally, she has acted
in very similar roles. In fact,
she has directed a movie resulting in a similar
explicit situation. May Allah punish those
who were given the knowlege but still
refuse to abide by it. Thanks for shedding
some light on to this degrading situation.

** Mu Hu Hahahahahaha!**:hoonh:
"Quote the Mu,“NeverMu!”

I don't think so. Though, its regrettable that the role was played by a muslim girl, still, once the the role and story had been developed it is unlikely the producers would have stoppped from producing it if they had failed to find a muslim actress playing the part. If this muslim girl had been unwilling, they would just have gone ahead with any other to play a muslim girl. After all, this is all show-business.

At the same time, I am skeptical at the way you have identified isolated examples to convey that media is severely biased against muslims and muslim culture. The media makes fun of so many things, including themselves. This is a free world as far as the producers and writers are concerned. Do we have to get upset on every such trangression?

Get us something major (like 'The Seige') and I am willing to give you brownie points. :)

PS. I had also seen the movie "Bachelor", but I never remembered this dialogue. It might be true, but it was neither critical to the storyline nor anything which stands out. Why are some ppl so touchy?

Ok this stockmarket thing..yeah whatever ..so they showed a bad girl who says she's muslim... well it may not be everyone but it can happen and I'm sure it has..

The Siege!? With Denzel Washington and Annette Bening!?

Take a good look at that movie and you'll see it shows only truth and actually shows Islam in a very positive light!?

No offense but are you really THAT ignorant?! The movie was about whether it was right to blame an entire race or religion should be blamed for that actions of a few... and what could possibly happen if the government were to take such harsh actions to 'solve' such a problem. It showed how wrong it was to do this...

and btw this has actually happened in the past where Japanese citizens were once imprisioned as such.

In the end even the movie said that this is not the answer and it is wrong to label and sterotype people as such! and the main charactor argued with the terrorist guy begging him not to do this (set off a major explosion) cause it was even against the teaching of the Quran!? one of the main FBI guys was Muslim too!? And he was one of the good guys!? The main general guy who started the whole martial law thing was taken away by the FBI mind you !?

Even Three Kings was very truthful. It showed how the people of Kuwait were indeed victimised by a 'muslim' mind you. They even gave an Iraqi soldier the chance to explain his hatred for the US because their bombing killed his family ?! It was very objective and showed all sides of the story!!?

so were you guys all cheering Saddam when he was off killing Kuwaitis and many of his own people too? How many of you even know people who were in either country at the time and experienced all this first hand?

Where in God's name do you people come up with this BS!? Seriously are you so brainwashed and paranoid that you must think the whole freakin world is out to get you!?

Take a good look at the so called Islamic countries and how they really are!? Truth is you are your own worst enemy! And only you can fix yourself!

So next time instead of crying about what other people say about 'your people' got out and do some good and help destroy these negative stereotypes 'your people' have only brought on to themselves!

Oh wait I forgot being 'muslims' you are so much better then everyone else and must avoid all contact with the 'enemy' unless it is in an effort to convert them.

..time to eat all your words, swallow your pride..open your eyes..

well uzee you have made some interesting points but i was just wondering who you are ? your name is uzee and uzee is a jewish name i hope there is no jewish conspricy here.
