BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, May 24 - The government of China offered unequivocal support on Tuesday for President Islam A. Karimov of Uzbekistan, who is facing international criticism for the crackdown against a prison break and antigovernment rally in the northeastern city of Andijon earlier this month.

China cannot condone that while they are doing it themselves in XingXiang Province of Uigher muslims. I guess the Chinese know how thickheaded one can be, so they understand the Uzbeki’s issue.
Pakistan can voice their concerns, maybe kill a few ppl, burn a flag or two protest and thats about it.
PD you have worked in the corporate environment where everyone jumps on a high profile / very visible project, but stays away from a low profile project. Same thinking can be applied here. Protesting against China aint worth it, but against US you know its a status thing againsts other muslim countries.
China backs Karimov despite NATO and US calls for probe
BEIJING: Uzbek President Islam Karimov held a second day of talks with China’s top leaders Thursday as Beijing snubbed calls for more pressure on the hardline leader to accept an international probe into a bloody military crackdown.
Two weeks after a May 13 massacre in which hundreds died, Beijing welcomed Karimov as an “old friend”, granting a long meeting and dinner with President Hu Jintao and talks Thursday with Premier Wen Jiabao.
“We hope to develop friendly ties with Uzbekistan. At present in the Central Asian region we face challenges of the three forces of separatism, terrorism and extremism,” said foreign ministry spokesman Kong Quan.
“We share with Uzbekistan many common interests and we hope that we can strengthen bilateral ties.” Such red carpet treatment would be taboo for democracies, but China has long received and continues to want Karimov’s assistance in suppressing Muslim separatists in its northwestern Xinjiang region near Uzbekistan, analysts say.
“The Uzbekistan government renders full support and understanding to the Chinese stance in this regard,” Kong said. “We hope to strengthen cooperation with relevant countries and hope to combine efforts to combat terrorist activities.”
Analysts said Uzbekistan was crucial to China’s policy in Xinjiang as many Muslim separatists fighting for an independent state of East Turkestan are believed to be hiding there.

Why would China urge restraint by Uzbekistan?
"The authorities continued to make little distinction between acts of violence and acts of passive resistance. Repression resulted in the closure of unofficial mosques, arrests of imams, restrictions on the use of the Uighur language and the banning of certain Uighur texts and journals.
Arrests of so-called “separatists, terrorists and religious extremists” continued and thousands of political prisoners, including prisoners of conscience, remain in prison. Many of those charged with “separatist” or “terrorist” offenses were reportedly sentenced to death and executed."
China is Pakistan's friend when it comes to cracking Indian nuts. Not surprisingly, the condemnations come from American after the genocide has been committed. Bosnians were being mass-killed under the nose of peace loving europeans. Once the majority of moslems were wiped off and terrorists serbs feared retaliation then came the Americans and the so called UN.
