dilse,
Your question needs a bit of clarification....
If you are asking about Islamic point of view on that...I dont know . cause I am no expert on islam...
If you are asking about current practice in Islamic cultures...Well i can only talk about Pkaistan , as I havnt been to any other culture...In pakistan generally ladies go in Ob/gyn, and woman with the exception of very poor and upper class ,prefer going to a lady... BTW..Mrs. Bhutto's gyn. is a guy..
If you are asking what should be done..I have no doubt in my mind that any competent dr. is good irrespective of gender....
Nova.....thank you,I just wanted openion about muslim woman on islamic point of view, weather you are living in pakistan or else where in the world, the religion dosent have option. If there is lady doctor why will you go to men doctor...

If you are looking for a religious perspective...please continue in the religion section of the forum.
Thank you.
I think women should go to a woman gynocologist. In my relative's case a disease went undetected for years for the stupid reason that she was ashamed to talk in detail about it to a local doctor who happened to be male.
I am not a Muslim woman, so I don’t know how I would feel about it. If I were a Muslim woman, I would want to go to the most competent male of female gynecologist. I will bring my hubby along, so he can get embarrassed when I am having my pap smear. It is a body for God sake. Let a professional look at it, and treat it if needs be. Male or female.
I agree with ZZ. I personally, and my wife also believe that Women Gyn/Ob are more Competant than Men. Again its the women thing, so how a male can fully understand the feelings of a pregnant woman.
Common sense prevails, or should prevail.
Off course, if there is a female GYNECOLOGIST then going to a male one does not become an option for the Muslimah.
If for some reasons, the female GYNECOLOGIST does not know the problem and there is no other female GYNECOLOGIST who would be able to diagnose the problem, then going to a male GYNECOLOGIST becomes permissble.
If there is no female GYNECOLOGIST, then there is no option but to goto a male GYNECOLOGIST rather than having a problem and not going to a GYNECOLOGIST because he is a male.
I hope this problem is cleared here.
HomiD yups thanx very much ;)
