I guess as a true sharia abiding country, all ringtones should be banned in KSA other than that one regular one. And compulsorily everyone must switch on their vibrators to differentiate as to whose mobile is ringing...!!....KSA has deviated from sharia if this is not the case.
In favor of the move. We should demonstrate that we have respect for that which is sacred to us irrespective of the musical benefits or whatsoever. Somethings (such as Quranic ringtones) though may appear harmless but they highlight the underlying conscience of people towards how seriously they hold sacred their beliefs and the message in the Quran. Not having a Quranic ringtone leaves no room for argument about disrespect but having one allows for such notions.
Since I dont understand arabic, I usually dont understand the Ayah anyways unless its accomapnied by a translation.. So for people like me and others who dont understand Arabic, having it as a ringtone or simply hearing it somplace else is pretty much the same thing.

Thats relative, maybe it loses essence for you, doesnt mean its the same for everyone... Some people might be comforted by the sound of an Ayah over their cell phone.
Say for example I have different ringtones for everyone I know... My parents might have an Ayah ringtone that talks about respecting your Parents... Or if its your wife or your friend, then there is a seperate Aah ringtone for them...
That doesnt sound wrong to me...

Are you happy in your ignorance of the Arabic language, not knowing the meaning of the Qur'an therefore it is 'the same' as any other ringtone? Or does it make you feel 'nothing'?
What's the Saudi's reason for banning it? Probably because they think it is degrading.
I'm for banning all loud ring tones. When you're trying to get a few mins snooze in the train laSt thing I want is some clowns stupmusic whether Britney Spears or mulllah doills.
