By Amir Nafees
LAHORE: Muslim residents of Chianwali took the people injured in the terrorist attack at United Protestants (UP) Church to hospital as the found out what after an announcement from the village mosque, an elderly man named Muhammad Nazir told Daily Times on Thursday.
Mr Nazir said he was about to sleep after Isha prayers when he heard a muffled boom. “I was just trying to figure out what could have caused it when there was a special announcement from the mosque,” he added. “The announcement went: ‘Dear Muslims, unidentified people have attacked the UP Church and several women and children have been injured. Please come and help our Christian brothers and sisters’,” he added. Mr Nazir said he rushed to the scene immediately and saw several Muslims outside the church. Residents with their own transport brought the vehicles and started taking the injured to Daska Civil Hospital.
Another middle-aged man named Muhammad Ramzan said Muslims and Christians lived peacefully in the village and both always respected one another. “It must be some conspiracy to drive a wedge between Muslims and Christians,” he said.
The majority of the people of the neighbouring villages were unaware of the incident till next morning (Thursday morning). But as residents began waking and visiting the church they found Muslims there too, condoling the deaths with the victims’ families.
