Deliberately facetious title, but an amusing story nonetheless. The man apparently told a Muslim reporter that he was involved in the London bombings, but was in fact completely innocent. Well… innocent of the bombing, but accused of not being innocent of wasting police time.
A man who told a newspaper he was involved with the 7 July bombers has been charged with wasting police time.
Imran Yaqub Patel, 27, from Dewsbury in West Yorkshire, was held on suspicion of terrorism, after the News of the World gave information to the police.
Mr Patel has been charged with causing “the wasteful employment of the police” by lying to a reporter. Magistrates in Leeds bailed him until 25 November.
He was the only person being held over the London bombings, which killed 52.
The full charge he faces is that “on October 20, 2005, at Huddersfield, he caused wasteful employment of the police by knowingly making [reporter] Mazher Mahmood a false report tending to show that he had information material to a police inquiry”.
Mr Patel spoke only to confirm his name and to give his date of birth during Thursday’s court hearing.
District Judge David Kitson granted an application for bail on condition that he lives at an address which was not given in open court and has his passport retained by West Yorkshire police.

There is no question that what the Patel did was not very intelligent. But since when did giving false information intentionally to a reported became a crime???

The newspaper looks the stupid one, they where sensationalising the fact they had found a so called terrorist with big headlines and plenty of backslapping when in fact they now have egg on their faces, and the brit thug police yet again have arrested people based on rumour and propoganda.

these stupid thug brit police will use any excuse to arrest you, so now wasting police time is a big time criminal offence maybe they should have done there homework instead of proudly proclaiming they have arressted a international terrrorist and giving thanks to the newspaper involved, did the newspaper not get charged with wasting police time hmmmm double standards again i see

Its time that Pakistanis and Indians occupied England and make West England Company and get Kohinoor back and then give them a taste of their own medicine by making Falklands and Ireland a totally independent countries and leaving some territorries under dispute.
