Summary of Organization: The Interfaith Youth Core is an entrepreneurial, Chicago-based, international organization actively building a movement that encourages religious young people to work together to strengthen their identities, foster inter-religious understanding and cooperate to serve the common good. www.ifyc.org
Summary of Position: The Muslim Initiatives Coordinator will advance interfaith youth service-learning work within the Muslim community in the United States. The position will begin with a full-time, grant funded project to increase civic engagement among Muslims nationally. The successful candidate will have several years’ experience proactively working in Muslim communities, with a focus on young people, civic engagement and/or capacity building.
Supervision: Reports directly to Vice President of Programs.
Status: Full-time position, begins August 28, 2006.
Responsibilities:
Build relationships within the American Muslim community
Develop and deliver trainings within the American Muslim community on civic engagement and interfaith youth service-learning
Manage all Interfaith Youth Core projects directed toward the American Muslim community, including planning, staffing, budgeting, implementation, tracking, evaluation and reporting
Build a leadership group of emerging young Muslims across the world
Advise other IFYC staff members on matters of strengthening our overall work within the American Muslim community
Collaborate with the IFYC staff team in strategic visioning
Other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
3 years’ work or personal experience within the American Muslim community required
Masters Degree Preferred
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work in a culturally diverse environment
Graduate-school level verbal and written communication
Collaborative nature and leadership style
Ability to balance detail and big picture
Flexibility and agility in problem-solving
Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
Positive outlook
Demonstrated professional experience preferred in:
· Project management
· Relationship management
· Program development, budgeting implementation, tracking, evaluation, reporting
· Training and capacity-building
· Service-learning
· Interfaith work or civic engagement
· Youth work
Compensation: Salaried $30-$45K annually based on experience; full health insurance coverage; 3 weeks personal time plus 5 floating holidays; staff development funds.
