when pple convert to islam, do they chose to become sunni or shia?
or are they neither???
Re: muslim converts
Usually it depends on who converts them.
Re: muslim converts
When my hub converted he became sunni like me.

MashAllah, may Allah bless him and make it easy for him to understand and follow ISlam
Re: muslim converts
Depends on where they study Islam and how they learn about it. Most converts become Sunni, just for practical reasons, such as most mosques are sunni, there are more resources available in English, etc. However, I have known some converts who after studying further have gone on to become Shia because of their personal beliefs. Many converts choose not to associate themselves with a particular sect at all, preferring to just be a "muslim".
Re: muslim converts
Better not to convert then becoming a Shia.:D

All of the converts I know are sunni. Then again, I am sunni myself, so I would tend to come into contact would be sunnis.
Re: muslim converts
i know many reverts brothers and sisters who follow sunni, sufi and salafi way ..........but they call themselves muslim.
Re: muslim converts

Brother.....
May be mostly shias are'nt following their scholars, but it doesn't mean that all shias are like that...............
I see many people who call themselves sunni but don't even know what does ' Sunnah ' mean.

This is not a Shia sunni debate. Its about statistics of reverts.

yes, its true that most reverts are not shia....as far as I know.
Re: muslim converts
It all depends on the people around the reverted. If they are shiah they will be shiah. If they are ahmadi then well...not muslim.. if they are sunni, alhamdulillah.
Re: muslim converts
yes ..very true... i was just saying shia docrine is totally opposite to sunnah in every aspect...as this is not our topic so leave it...and i agree many sunnis also just follow what thier peer hazrat and mashaiq say....and what thier sajjada nasheen say..rather than what sunnah says.....
Re: muslim converts
Oh sorry....yes its about statistics...so to my little knowledge ....93 % are sunnis in muslim world...so definitely sunnis convert are also greater in no....
Re: muslim converts
I personally believe it is a misery that we are converting people to sunni and shia. What happened to converting poeple to Islam? and they can proudly say they are Muslim and dont need any further tags attached to it. Was Prophet Muhammad (s) a sunni? a shia perhaps?
How many people converted to Islam in his time and how many out of them were sunni and how many were shia or for that matter were further split into different sects they belonged to?
Re: muslim converts
Peace Stupid Idiot
You need to change that name or people will be accused of calling you names ...
Warning! Muslims should not convert anyone to Islam ... doing so will breach our remit.
Our scope of action does not go further than being the best example of humanity, being friendly, charitable and spreading the message of truth. If people do not accept the message it is their own doing. As long as we put the effort in to informing then the converting is done by Allah (SWT). When we call to Islam there is an adab for it.
First we have to establish Tawhid and refer to the wisdom in it.
Then we must alert to the fact Muhammad (SAW) is the final messenger.
We need to use the Qur'an in our efforts and for the rules of haraam and halaal, what to enjoin and what to leave, we need to be understanding.
We would warn of the difficulties people may face in becoming Muslim; if we sense people rushing in to Islam we should try to slow them down. People need to realise that Islam is a committment, that once they are in, leaving it is shunned.
On the other side of the coin, we can give them time to change and grow in Islamic adab, but the realisation of all of it being a requirement is a must. In other words if a person who enjoys alcohol wants to become Muslim for all the right reasons, believes that he should not drink but as yet cannot leave it, he should be allowed to embrace Islam with the intention of weaning himself off his drink.
Sometimes people may practice Islam before taking the Shahadah these are all good methods of ensuring that people do not become Muslim and change back.
The community needs to support new Muslims that is another big duty upon us. We should realise that they have left their cultures, maybe even their families to become part of our family. However, do we treat them with kindness, or invite them to a meal? I know people who have even left their haraam businesses after becoming Muslim ... so this has now gone off topic but I think these are important things for all of us to know. As it is very likely that most of us are in the environment of new Muslims.
To answer the question ... With maybe a few exceptions almost every new Muslim chooses to become 'just' a Muslim. As they are told from anyone helping them with their journey to Islam that, we are one ummah and that sects and groups are not liked.
