Muslim Clerics Removed from US Airplane (Merged)

Re: OMG OMG, they were going to hijack the plane!

I doubt a judge or a jury will hold US Airways responsible. Muslim-phobia is rampant in America and the West today.

Re: OMG OMG, they were going to hijack the plane!

btw usair email used to be first initial last name @usair.com in the late 90s

i think they later changed them to..

or [email protected]

main phone number of corporate offices is 480-693-0800

senior officers are

Chairman and CEO: William Douglas (Doug) Parker
President: J. Scott Kirby
SVP and CFO: Derek J. Kerr

call or email your concern as a customer.

Re: OMG OMG, they were going to hijack the plane!

Maybe I'm looking at this thru rose-colored glasses but really. They were cleared of any suspicion, of any possible wrongdoing. Once they were cleared completely, they were left stranded, with their photos and personal info all over the country's newscasts and papers. Any righteous American - Muslim or NOT - would find this reprehensible and punishable.

and ps!!

I think we should start flooding the above email addresses with polite demands that they compensate their victims in some kind way.

Re: OMG OMG, they were going to hijack the plane!

Muslims need to demand respect for themselves!

Boycott the business EN MASSE that don't treat Muslims with respect.

Re: OMG OMG, they were going to hijack the plane!

emails bounced back, so ummm well I still sent it thru to both investor relations and customer relations via the form.

I may also call the corp offices to complain

From the AP: http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/11/22/america/NA_GEN_US_Passengers_Removed.php

There’s some woman on The O’Reilly Factor talking complete crap about how these guys just need to “wipe their nose and eyes because they’re not the only ones being singled out”. She goes on to say that 3 US Marines were taken aside in an airport for questioning because they aroused suspicion that was linked to the death of some other guy but the difference is that these Imams did not cause any sort of disruption to begin with. And I’m pretty sure they didn’t handcuff the US Marines either.

Re: Muslim Clerics Removed from US Airplane

Excellent observation and point Alhamdulilah!

Re: Muslim Clerics Removed from US Airplane

Yeah I was annoyed at this too. Goes to show that some people are so discriminatory and ignorant about Islam. If you pray, that doesn’t make you a freakin’ extremist. Then by that same logic, anyone who goes to Church needs to be discriminated and outcast and pulled off planes whenever they pull out a rosary or a Bible.

Re: OMG OMG, they were going to hijack the plane!

Most Muslims are divided on issue whether we are victims or reason for such treatments. I doubt we will able to make a firm stand against any injustice.

Re: Muslim Clerics Removed from US Airplane (Merged)

dude, i am not flying usair even if i have to pay more. I am going for a trip in december and while usair had a better schedule, i decided t go with a diff airline, I would do the same even if it was cheaper.

one of my hindu pals did that as well, his view is that discrimination of such sorts impacts us all, and tomorrow he could be tossed off because someone may mistake him for being a muslim...not that it is right to toss out muslims anyways

In teh end, whether u do it as a boycott or you do it because you dont want to be left standing in the terminal with your bags in your hands while the plane takes off, it makes sense to do.

I travel for work or for vacation and family events in either case i can not afford to be late and at worse not helped to get there even if some crap happens.

Re: Muslim Clerics Removed from US Airplane (Merged)

Naheen bhai...HE never did ...there is no exclusive even from Al Jazeera on him doing such a thing....
all bogus presscreened CIA US videos where he is supposedly implying he did it...

Re: Muslim Clerics Removed from US Airplane (Merged)

From our Imam who attended the conference:

Well any how here is more information from our Imam who was at the same conference (NAIF - North American Imam Federation) with Omar Shahin ( actually I have met him once myself when he came to our Islamic center for Khutbah in '05).
Our Imam gave us a presentation on what he did there and also gave us first hand information from a teleconference call they had for the matter to understand what "really" happened. Here is what he told us:
Six of them were travelling together. 1 was from CA, 1 from another state and 4 from AZ (same as Omar Shahin).
1 of them was a blind brother (I forgot the name). He was being assisted by another brother (Imam) all the time. In the concourse they needed to make Isha salah. 3 of them went to make wudu and 3 made their jamaah. Then the other 3 returned and prayed their own jamaah.
After they boarded Omar Shahin who has frequent flyer miles sat in First Class. (I know he must as he travels for charities giving Khutbahs).
The blind brother was wearing the large goggles that most blind people wear. He had to stand longer for someone to help him as the brother assisting him was delayed boarding the plane. (why the the airline was not providing assistance, I don't know). Then after that another issue came up when the blind brother had his shoes untied, and I believe kind of drew attention when he was clumsy in trying to tie them again.
So that is when they announced in the aircraft that Misters so and so (all six of them) please stand up and come out of the plane. They will not fly unless all six of these people come out immediately.
So they all came without any questions and came to the door (puzzled obviously) and immediately the security personnel handcuffed them. Omar Shahin being the president asked why this is being done, to which he was told to be "quiet" and "don't talk". He acknowledged their command. They then took him seperately and questioned him about everything related to his personal life. Mind you the whole conference was already cleared by the local FBI as NAIF informed them of it ahead of time.

The rest is public knowledge. The next day they were swarmed by the media and US air would not fly them at all!!!

Allah SWT have mercy!

Oh yes..they have CAIR and ACLU already involved and are in the process of preparing a lawsuit.

Re: Muslim Clerics Removed from US Airplane (Merged)

Been doing the same.

Also, I travel exclusively with the carrier that has consistently provided me good service and also not treated me like mooselimb-while-flying.

Re: OMG OMG, they were going to hijack the plane!

im not sure if this is the same story but.....i heard on the news (i just caught the last bit of it) that someone was kicked out for making salah at the terminal.

this is ridiculous!! !!

Imams’ eviction from plane reflects tough post-9/11 calls

After the Sept. 11 attacks, the need for tougher scrutiny of passengers at airports was glaringly obvious. So was the potential for innocent Muslims to be treated like criminals.

Last week, those two concerns collided head-on at the Minneapolis airport.

Six Muslim clerics returning from a religious conference were removed from a US Airways flight after passengers and crew reported suspicious behavior to the pilot. The imams were questioned by authorities and released.

The imams charge that they were singled out because they prayed quietly in Arabic at the gate before boarding and have demanded an investigation. “Flying while Muslim,” they appropriately note, is no more an offense than “driving while black,” a reference to the common complaint of African-Americans pulled over without credible cause.

If there were nothing more to this episode, the clerics would have grounds for outrage. Ethnic profiling violates American values and shouldn’t be the basis for traffic stops or airport security.

*But behavioral profiling - assessing the pattern of what people do in the context of the known threats - makes sense. Based on the official report of what crew and passengers told police, it appears that the clerics’ behavior lacked self-awareness or was intentionally provocative. Either way, it provided reasonable grounds for concern:

•A passenger handed a note to a flight attendant saying that the six men were cursing U.S. involvement in
Iraq before the flight, mentioning
Saddam Hussein and chanting “Allah” several times. A gate agent said he became suspicious “by the way they were praying very loud.” Another passenger said one imam expressed extreme fundamentalist views.

•An off-duty flight attendant on the plane and other passengers told police the men switched their seat assignments to a configuration associated with the 9/11 attacks, with two in first class, two in the middle and two in the rear. One imam made two trips to the back of the plane during boarding to speak to his colleagues, the attendant said.

• Three of the men asked for seat belt extenders, which they didn’t appear to be portly enough to need. The extenders, which consist of a metal buckle and belt that could be used as weapons, weren’t attached to the seat belts but were found on the floor.

The combination of these events caused the pilot to request the men’s removal.*

Some facts in this case are in dispute and warrant further investigation. If nothing else, it underscores the tough judgment calls that airline crews and security personnel have to make under tight time pressure.

Ethnic profiling must be avoided, but fear of being wrong shouldn’t make passengers and crew shy about alerting authorities to suspicious behavior. That would jeopardize safety for all passengers, Muslim and non-Muslim alike.

that is the only good thing they've done in their entire history...they should ban them from this plannet!
