Crap. I had to take my shoes off four times last week going through airport security. I can't take a bottle of water into the sterile zone of my airport. I can't carry a full sized bottle of shampoo, only a quart sized baggie of sample sized stuff. It's not like OBL and Richard Reid have not effected our daily lives. It's not like people are not on alert, and being told to be on alert. Everybody is balancing inconvenience against safety.
Once 9/11 happened, incidents like this were a fait accompli. The Muslim world is still apparently in denial about OBL, and his effect on how Muslims are perceived. Thats a shame. Yet OBL is still a hero in some parts of your country. Civilizations are still clashing, and they will be for decades. Let's not act shocked when this stuff happens.

Just heard this on NPR. Two things:
- They prayed before boarding.
- They asked for seat belt extensions.
Those WERE the only reasons they were kicked off the plane and interrogated like criminals. US Airways representative had no OTHER explanation for their deboarding and arrest.

If you get off your soapbox and try to comprehend, I was suggesting that people focus on this incidence rather than the conspiracy theories regarding lack of guilt or guilt on his part. The statement was directed towards people who were going into a whole OBL’s guilt vs proof which is not the objective of this thread.
yes everyone understands that militant mulsims actions have created perception problems here, just like Our foriegn policy has created perception problems in the middle east. That is understood.
That however does not mean that some redneck yahoo to **** his pants at seeing some guys pray, nor is it right to throw ppl off a plane on suspicsion. I guess teh passengers and the airlines were not just playing it safe and letting their fear control them, they also made a no confidence vote on our airport security.

Don't forget people like Adolph Hitler, Brits, French and other colonial powers. Had they never robbed and pillaged the world for their greed and bigotry none of this would be happening today either.
You can play this blame game all the way back to the beginning of time, the fact is that US Airways showed that they are bigots and ALL muslims are "guilty" by association.

This is a sad thing for those men who seem to be very upstanding people. I try to be one of these myself. And I for one will go thru whatever trials and tribulations necessary to ensure the safety of myself, my family and anyone else. If something I do or something anyone else does causes suspision, doubt or fear then by all means....do whatever you hafta do to ensure the safety of myself and others.
That said, I think the saddest thing is the lack of support for these men once they were checked out. They should have been put up in first-class accommodations for the evening and then flown to their destinations first thing the next day - first class.

The interesting bit is that from what I gather USAir did not wanna fly them out on a diff flight even after they were cleared by security.
I did not fly USair earlier due to their pathetic service, now I have one more reason not to fly that airline.

I think these men should get themselves the very best of attorneys and go sue the pants off the airline. They were slandered, embarrassed, had their photos and personal info slathered all over every national paper and they were abused. NOT (IMHO) for being removed from the flight for questioning but for what happened after. They truly should make an example of USAir for this thing. Its one thing to be singled out for this type of humiliation "for a good cause" (ie., the peace of mind of ignorant travelers) but its QUITE another thing to be discriminated against as in the refusal to apologetically accommodate them in the very best fashion after the incident.

All they need to do is contact the ACLU, American Civil Liberties Union. They would gladly take the case, probably for free too. Or any Human Rights Commission would take their case.
Not a problem, I'm sure these organizations are already falling over themselves trying to get the case! (hopefully!!)
