How easy do you think it is for muslims to raise children in the West today provided the controversy surrounding Islam?
I’m still thinking about the children at the Orange County incident and how terrified they must have been. I wonder what their parents could have said to them later on to make them feel better? =(
Unless they’re living under a rock, they’re very well aware of the hatred towards muslims these days and I wouldn’t be surprised if their innocent minds were confused about their religion, perhaps even embarrassed and losing faith?
From what I've seen, most people here are nice and their personal experience with you has a greater influence on them than what they see in the media. As far as incidents like the one in Orange County, the closest thing to that that I've seen is people screaming at us when they drove by the Masjid in the weeks after 9/11. I wasn't a child at that time, but I do know many who were and none of them seems to be traumatized by it.
Being traumatized is one thing, being confused as a result of the hatred is another. I should perhaps include muslim children all around the globe. Most of them have access to the internet and they are aware of what is being said about their religion. Just wondering how strong our future generations will be…
Kids are very chalaak these days anyway, if their parents were teaching them bad things about “those amreekans” they’d turn around and say “errr dad, why are we here in amreeka in the first place?”
