Outlandish
Outlandish’s music is characterized by its melodic qualities and the band’s unique skills as vocalists. It draws on influences from Hip Hop, Folk and World music and centres lyrically on themes of basic human respect and understanding, which all sum up as a modern day Folk based Pop music that we label LIFE MUSIC.
Outlandish stands for unity and respect rather than extremism and offence. Influenced by their multi ethnical background they represent universal values which make them unique in Europe!
Outlandish’s most recent album ‘Closer Than Veins’ is an unpredictable journey through catchy tunes, sterling production values and last but not least: attitudes and ambiance that reach out to the audience, borne by both yearning and hope. ‘Closer Than Veins’ is a mix of modern protest songs drawing on obvious singer/songwriter references, Isam’s charismatic vocals, organic track recalling Kanye West, aggressive Hip Hop, modern melancholy with Flamenco tunes and Slavonic Gypsy. What stands out about the lyrics is that they are about life: about people who’ve been given life; and not least, about the blood flowing in all our veins irrespective of race, status or where we were born.
In 2003 the single ‘Aicha’ was #1 on the single and radio charts in several European countries and received gold awards. The album ‘Bread & Barrels of Water’ sold almost 250.000 copies in Europe. Outlandish supported Santana on his 2003 tour as well as visiting Destiny’s Child and Kelly Rowland on their respective tours. Outlandish participated in India’s 2003 MTV Awards; won Best Nordic Act at the 2004 Nordic Music Awards and also won the award for Best International Release in the Arabic Music Awards in Dubai.
One of the first singles from the album ‘Closer Than Veins’, ‘I Only Ask Of God’, was written by Argentinean singer/songwriter Leon Gieco in 1978 when two dictators almost started a war between Chile and Argentina, this song is a cry for freedom, peace and unity!
