Musical Instruments

In so far as the article discusses the Qur'anic verses it just presents the arguments.

One does not need to be an Islamic Jurist to determine:

  1. Ok.. even if saamidoon is taken as 'singing', how does the context make it haraam. The context of the verse describes the audience at best as being unattentive.. so what if they were not paying attention to the message and were busy eating or drinking or sleeping.. would anyone declare eating, drinking and sleeping haraam??

  2. astufziz is also annoy/harrass/disturb and not just excite! Also Satan is allowed to 'excite' with "wealth and children" too.. I don't see anyone declaring that haraam.

  3. luhv-al-Hadees Don't tell us what Ibn Zayd thinks.. Think for yourself. "idle talk" or "vain discourses" need a huge stretch of heretic imagination to be taken as music, musicians or songs!! It's more a boasting of arrogance.

I have one for you:

[57:20] Know that this world's life is only sport and play and gaiety and boasting among yourselves, and a vying in the multiplication of wealth and children, like the rain, whose causing the vegetation to grow, pleases the husbandmen, then it withers away so that you will see it become yellow, then it becomes dried up and broken down; and in the hereafter is a severe chastisement and (also) forgiveness from Allah and (His) pleasure; and this world's life is naught but means of deception.

PakistaniAbroad: Gentelmen I would therefore appeal to all of you to declare the following haraam

  1. Sports and Play
  2. gaiety and boasting among yourselves
  3. vying in the multiplication of wealth and children

We'll tackle music next.

PakistaniAbroad - MAGNIFICENT POST!!!!

I say you ought to e-mail or fax that post to as many Muslim scholars you can find!!

Wonderful logic. I'm so excited, I'm going to tell my friends about this one!

Can anyone comment on the following Hadith (I am not sure of its authenticity):

**Narrated Abu Musa

That the Prophet said to him' "O Abu Musa! You have been given one of the musical wind-instruments of the family of David .**

I think the wind instruments were referred to as "whispers of Satan" in the book mentioned above.

: First, it should not be the type that is loud, violent, and tough such as Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, etc.... If, on the other hand, it is calm and allows time for relaxation and contemplation, then it is permissible. IslamiCity

What if Heavy Metal and Hard Rock music gives someone relaxation and comtemplation, as it does to me, then would it be permissible? :)
