One of the major contributions of the great Indian civilization to mankind is the very original Music..
Traditionally it ran in families , passed down through generations.
We in pakistan declared anything indian as Un pakistani , and of course if it wasnt acquired from Arab , unislamic…Music never got the respect it deserved , and consequently is in the process of dying away …
I dont see any new Amanat alis, or mehdi hassans or ghulam alis in the making…
Where do you think its going…Are we concerned…
There should be concern. But I think there are other factors at play as well. Western influences have impacted the popular music. On one hand you have a group against music, on the other hand you have a group that is headed to western or desi-western music.
The classical music of South Asia has a lot to offer but many people lack the ability to appreciate it.
It may be less popular in general than it was but I doubt that its on its death bed in any way.
