Re: Is Music Haraam?
**Mad Scientist, **I respect the googling, but the fatwa doesn’t hold true in light of the Majority of the Imams. And I know where Sheikh Yousaf Al-Qaradawi is coming from. THAT itself is a ‘debate’ amongst scholars.
SalmanNY, Sadly yes.
SchweetDreamz, Yes even Duff cakes are haraam! ![]()
Re: Is Music Haraam?
Life without music = :(
Arguing that God forbids it = :( :(
Not knowing for sure 1400 years after the message was revealed = :( :( :(
Re: Is Music Haraam?
that’s what I said.. do what your scholars tell you cuz your madhab is Sunni/Barelvi/Hanfi etc etc whatever..
In Islam though, Music isn’t haraam by any stretch of the imagination.. it’s based on mathematics which plays an integral part in the design of the universe we live in… and since Allah is the Lord of the Universe, He it is who has created music too.
Re: Is Music Haraam?
So you Also do what your , whoever it is, tells you.
But don’t incorporate it as the “right” islam.

Re: Is Music Haraam?
so which fiqah allows music? I think both sunni and shias agree that music is forbidden
Re: Is Music Haraam?
Music is a form of expression, a form of genius. Why would Islam make that haram?
Re: Is Music Haraam?
Alot of things are a form of genius. Not all are haraam.
Music is not a form of ‘genius’.
Re: Is Music Haraam?
By reading this thread it doesn’t appear that I am the only one who doesn’t know head nor tail of it…
IF the Allah of Islam is THE God. Then I DO know. Never would He make music forbidden to us.
Re: Is Music Haraam?
So why do you think a overwhelming majority of scholars agree that music is banned
Even many christians would agree oliver cromwell banned music in England
Re: Is Music Haraam?
Oliver Cromwell was a puritan from the 17th century, he hardly represents modern Christian thought. Today music and singing are an integral of most Christian services.
As far as in Islam, my belief many rely too heavily on man-made hadith to determine what is right and wrong in God's eyes.
Re: Is Music Haraam?
How are we to determine that which hadith are invented or which ones are authentic?Certainly you cannot dismiss all hadith condeming music as fabricated just because it dosent suit your ideas.
.
Re: Is Music Haraam?
I'm not Muslim. But if I were I would put my faith and belief in the words of Allah (Quran), not a collection of unsubstantiated writings written by man that may or may be Allah's wishes. If music was banned as per Quran then I would believe it.
Re: Is Music Haraam?
Hilary Duff?
Needless to say, as stated above, there is anything but consensus on the matter...there may be consensus within schools of thought...but that's hardly the same thing.
Important to point out too, that devotional music played a critical role in the spread of Islam on the Indian subcont.
Re: Is Music Haraam?
Admitting to a multiplicity in 'Christian" thought is not very reassuring. What if Mr. Cromwell was closer to Christ’s position on the matter?
Re: Is Music Haraam?
A little multiplicity may do Islam a little good as well (kinda like we have here regarding music). In my view, Jesus would have appreciated and loved music. I don't think Oliver Cromwell represented Jesus much at all.

Similarily, Music wasn't condemned haram, until later on in the life of Rasuulallah s.a.w.
[/QUOTE]
Unlike Music, Alcohol (or rather spirits and other intoxicants) were explicitly pointed out as the forbidden substance and not left to inference. There are many hadith that even describe the transition from being a lush society into a sober one...not so with Music.
In fact, the allowance of Duff isn't an explicit allowance in a clear-cut prohibition of Music (there is no statement to the effect "From this day forward, all Music is haram", as there was with intoxicants), but rather an instance of a contradiction to a general rule that scholars dealt with by making it an exception to the rule.
Anyhow, scholars who study this issue across schools of thought admit that there is no consensus.
Re: Is Music Haraam?
Based on what? Knowledge? Gut feeling? Or because you picture Christ more of a drinking buddy rather than a representative of God on Earth…
My point is, I think Ollie was acting in good faith…why didn’t he represent Jesus’s view? Sounds like an issue that requires academic arguments rather than a “feeling”…
