Music and Working out

So today I finally took my iPod to the gym and worked out with music on and let me tell you…I had the best workout ever!

I listened to non-stop trance/house/techno (whatever you want to call it)…the beat completely draws you in making you forget about how fast you are going, how out of breath you are, and/or how much you are lifting. I jogged for about 4 miles  normally I jog for 2 miles…and I didnt even realize it.

how many of you listen to music while working out? what kind of music gets you to workout harder? and please be sure to share some of your favorite tunes as well.

Re: Music and Working out

I’m too scared to bring my ipod with me, im scared itll fall while Im on the treadmill and Ill end up running all over it :bummer: I stick to what the gym’s playing.. but I find the tough girl songs and rap songs praising hot bodied women very inspiring :cb:

Re: Music and Working out

Don’t they have a media player holder on the treadmill(s) you use? :hmmm:

Trance/Techno is usually the energy choice.

Re: Music and Working out

On the first floor (the only floor I use the treadmills) only the third treadmill has the holders, and I dont really like that treadmill. I'm partial to the first one :p

lol Riya @ running all over it. I agree those songs are inspiring as well.

Teggy…our gym doesnt have those media player holders.

Riya… do check out best buy they have a bunch of things you can use (ie an arm band) where you can securly place your iPod while working out. I need to buy one 2.

Re: Music and Working out

I used to walk/jog for 5 to 6 miles daily listening to my music..i can,t imagine one going for long without anything!

Re: Music and Working out

I just happened to read today that Rocky's theme music Eye of the Tiger came in at No.1 in a poll of music to train/run to.

Re: Music and Working out

this is the eye of tiger thing orpheus is talking about …

I know!...i learned that a bit late but now i know! :D
what kind of music do you listen to? which one keeps you motivated and pushes you to do more?

oh yea? I'll have to give it a try.

anyone have it in mp3 format?

**Aliyish **lol thanks for the music. :D

One dark gloomy day, I knew I was missing something at home but could not remember what. I reached the gym and searched my pockets and found out that my music is gone, IPOD missing at home. I felt naked the whole time while working out, listening to the elevator (gym) music.

While doing cardio, I listen to different types of Indian soundtracks. My favorite thus far, while doing the Stairmaster (which is a pain to do if you are not trapped in your own world of music) is this. ( ) Usually kill 12 minutes and some change (the audio version goes longer than the video).

Usually the longer the song, the longer you can get into it and you don’t have to keep track of how many songs are behind you to get you to think how long you have left to reach your ending point.

What pushes me to do more is just specific lines in any song which I wait and wait for, and when that finally hits, I start my sprints.

I ran over mine too a couple of times, and especially while sprinting on treadmill, it is a scary sight. It just rolled over to the back so I keep the thing safe in my pocket now and not on the supporting part of treadmill. The hand going back and forth sometimes pulls the headset cord which is attached to the IPOD and it snaps it right out, forcing you to run over it. It is safer in your pocket.

Re: Music and Working out

I think if you can find a way to occupy your mind then its does help particularly with jogging. Listening to music on ipod is one way to keep your mind occupied, other than that you can count to a 1000 or something. I don't have an ipod at the moment but was thinking about getting one just for the jogging. If I had an ipod I would probably listen to house, trance, techno or dance.

lol…exactly! the same thing happened when i listen to music as well.

oh and yea the stairmaster is a huge pain the rear (literally) if you dont have something to do.

true…some people like to read while on the cardio machines. I cant stand reading while working out.

arshad do invest in an iPod…yes it is an investment

Re: Music and Working out

I have the settings on random…helps a lot to do the sprinting in cardio:cb:…u never know what is coming next.
I think listening to Music while working out really relaxes your mind and you are not stressing on a lot of other things. BTW I end up listening to music and reading the TV’s screen :smack:…I have to constantly tell myself to quit it

Falls under the umbrella of moms and moms-to-be. This group is at the gym every morning and start their treadmill on 1.5 speed. They can usually finish 3/4 lengths of the book as the 1-mile marker approaches. Fast readers, this bunch. :D

i usually watch some indian channels while on treadmill..any movie or drama ..sometiems songs..so its really right..when ur mind is busy u dont mind walking alot..

Re: Music and Working out

i listen to industry podcasts while working out :D

Some bolly music is pretty good, my favorite workout song used to be “Yeh Khuda” from Fight club…
