I agree with you. Musharraf cannot "elect himself". The only people who can elect Musharraf are the representatives of the people of Pakistan. And no evidence has ever emerged of any kind of wide-scale tampering of votes during the last parliamentary elections; and indeed, Musharraf and his supporters won so few votes that they had to actively seek allies and make compromises on their policies in order to create a large enough political bloc to make an effective government.
In other words, an uncomfortable as it is for many on this forum if Musgarraf becomes president again it is because the Pakistani people choose him through their elected representatives. And, of course, would be by the grace of Allah SWT.
And yet all this so-called rigging didn’t even let the PML-Q win enough seats to pass major laws without compromising and watering them down. . You’d have imagined that if they wanted to rig the result, they would have given themselves enough seats to pass the legislation that they wanted.
The PML-Q could have won just a single seat in Parliament and it wouldn’t have mattered, people would continue to say that even that seat was won through rigging simply because they support Musharraf.
Have you ever voted in Pakistan or atleast witnessed elections there? I was in pakistan during elections last time when this new "so-called" govt was formed. A lot of names were missing from the lists - people who were regular voters couldn't vote. Interestingly, they all were PML(N) group because PML(N) was the most popular one in lahore.
Mushy was once elected through a Referendum - yeah, anyone could vote. there was no restriction of ID card. People could bring Utility Bills and vote. There was no Ink Print on the thumb or any record. Do you kow what happened? Yes. same people voted like 50 times - they went to different polling stations and voted. and it was so open that everyone knew about it. It was a joke.
I'm sorry to say but its weird when people don't witness the things and only rely on biased sources.

In case you haven’t noticed, Mush is a dictator who rules the country, legislators and the people don’t matter. All a big drama and rubber stamp. Perhaps beacuse your not in Pakistan you don’t seem to realize this.
If you really want to fool us into thinking there was no rigging in the referendum and election’s, your only fooling yourself.
As for your second paragraph, that just doesn’t make sense, and as I’m sure your a intelligent person, you know it, but have your own reasons for saying it.
Yup the there was a lot of rigging against PML-N candidates mostly in Punjab, i know of one person who was threatened with his brother losing his job in the bank if he didn't withdraw his candidature against the PML-Q guy.
This time things will be a lot more easier for Musharraf, in many feudal and tribal areas all the major feudal/tribal/biradri groups have been brought over with carrots and sticks to serve the faujis, so in those areas in Punjab there won't be any real candidates from the opposition. So pre poll rigging has already taken place, in other areas, the zila nazims will be used to round up supporters and as rewards postings and transfers are being sorted out now before the election is actually called so the ban on transfers won't affect the government supporters.
On the flip side we have Musharraf the general/president campaigning for the PML-Q appealing to soldiers to vote for his people and at the same time slapping tough restrictions on any attempt at opposition groups to rally.
But it's interesting as I keep askingm since Musharraf is so enormously "popular" someone should explain to me why he needs to be endorsed by a rubber stamp parliament?
If people of Pakistan are so concerned about election and rigging, why don't these Khassis come out and overthrow Mushy the devil. After all, they did it against Ayub and Bhutto...
Not really.... Not even a single million march took place so far.. And to overthrow a dictator, you need 24/7 demonstrations for atleast a month from every city in the country...
Seems Pakistanis are more interested in buying mobile phones, watching TV channels and getting credit cards...
So Coolio googled it out himself... Interesting link...
I think people don't have some politician like Bhutto in which they can have enough confidence... Lack of leadership among politicians is the cause of dictatorship in the country...
I am sorry but it can no longer be called 'constitution' after the way the Musharaf regime has played around with it. It is more of a constipation for Pakistan the way it stands
just wondering if you would like to share your thoughts about them.
oh...i could go on and on
very briefly speaking i remember all kinds of obstacles in the way of those who didn't suport Mush. Other parties like MQM were given free reign and all kinds of help. People from areas that were not MQM strongholds had such a hard time registering to vote, police was on their side and election commission was on their side.
