Mushtaq and Read in angry clash...

Mushtaq Ahmed and Chris Read clashed angrily on Wednesday during the match between Sussex and Nottinghamshire.

The pair became involved in an argument after Mushtaq dismissed Read, with the Notts keeper thought to be unhappy at Mushtaq over an earlier failed appeal.

BBC Radio Nottinghamshire’s Robin Chipperfield understands there will be a meeting between the players, captains and umpires after the close of play.

Notts coach Mick Newell insisted there was no scuffle, just verbal exchanges.

The incident happened after Chris Read had left the field of play following his dismissal.** He then left the dressing-room, walked down a flight of stairs and exchanged angry words with Mushtaq who was fielding on the boundary’s edge.
**
Sussex captain Chris Adams then got involved, leaving the field and entering the Notts dressing room, where he spoke to Read.

But suggestions that** there may have been a physical confrontation have been played down by both sides.**

Read was Mushtaq’s third wicket of the day, the Pakistani spinner having earlier dismissed Jason Gallian for 19 and Graeme Swann for 37. All three batsmen were trapped lbw.

According to News so far, there was quite a bit Kussan-Mukki :D

Re: Mushtaq and Read in angry clash...

I expect Waheed Khan's full and complete report on this issue, which should be up by tomorrow by latest in the brand-new section titled "Breaking News" (hopefully under the ghostly name of "By our correspondent", meanwhile quoting an unnamed PCB official on this issue, all in the defensive mode).

No news is complete until Waheed Khan's mission is accomplished. That is a fact of life!

READ SORRY AFTER MUSHTAQ CLASH

By Mike McGrath, PA Sport
Nottinghamshire wicketkeeper Chris Read has apologised for his confrontation with Sussex spinner Mushtaq Ahmed during the second day of the Liverpool Victoria County Championship clash at Hove.

Read was dismissed by Mushtaq but appeared to be angered by the continued appeals from the former Pakistan leg-spinner before he was dismissed lbw. Mushtaq was not warned by the umpires for his appealing.

The 27-year-old Read went into the dressing room after he was dismissed but then confronted Mushtaq on the boundary, an incident he has apologised for.

**“I wish to apologise for my involvement in the incident with Mushtaq Ahmed earlier today,” said Read in a statement.

“It was totally out of character and will not happen again.”**

The England and Wales Cricket Board could take action depending on the outcome of a meeting between Read, Mushtaq and umpires Rob Bailey and Graham Burgess.

Read was one of Mushtaq’s six wickets during Nottinghamshire’s first innings of 229, establishing a lead of 86 runs. The hosts had nudged ahead by stumps, reaching 111 for three.

An Update from Daily Telegraph

Chris Read walked down the stairs of the players’ pavilion and started to harangue a Sussex boundary fielder in an extraordinary incident that held up play and threatened to overshadow some intriguing second day’s cricket here.

The incensed Nottinghamshire wicketkeeper had to be ushered away by a steward and team-mate David Hussey after heated words had been aimed at Mushtaq Ahmed, the Sussex leg-spinner standing at third man after dismissing him lbw for a duck minutes earlier.

Read had apparently been** upset by Mushtaq’s frequent appealing and, seeking a long innings against spin to impress watching England selectors David Graveney and Geoff Miller**, he allowed his frustrations to boil over. Chris Adams, the Sussex captain, left the field to speak to Read.

The umpires interviewed the two players after play to make a report to the England and Wales Cricket Board for possible disciplinary action. Read could hardly justify such behaviour in public.

Mushtaq often hit the pads or passed the edge and he succeeded with five appeals in his six wickets. Although there were too many appeals that were fatuous, his bowling enlivened a slow day.

The decibel count did eventually drop as Nottinghamshire secured a lead of 86, thanks to a typically pugnacious fifty by Mark Ealham, well supported by tail-ender Ryan Sidebottom. Three evening wickets and Read’s post-match apology rounded off a productive day for the champions.

**Read penalised for bust-up with Mushtaq [
**
LONDON: Former England wicket-keeper Chris Read has been disciplined by English cricket chiefs after an extraordinary pitch-side bust-up with Pakistani leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed.

Read was given three penalty points under the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB)’s disciplinary code for breaching provisions relating to the use of obscene or insulting language towards another player.

The sanction followed an incident during a county championship match on Wednesday after Sussex spinner Mushtaq trapped Read lbw fifth ball for a duck. After being given out, Read briefly returned to the pavilion before coming out to confront Mushtaq on the third-man boundary.

An angry exchange ensued in which Read, who had been irritated by Mushtaq’s appeals on earlier deliveries, used the word “cheat”, according to astonished spectators at the normally sleepy ground in Hove.](“The News International: Latest News Breaking, World, Entertainment, Royal News”)
