Granted that I am not a literary person in real sense, but I read my share of urdu literature and no one inspired me so much by reading just one book like Yousufi sahab.
I remember reading Zarguzasht when I was in Rawalpindi. My khaloo is a professor of urdu and Zarguzasht was one of the books in his library.
For those of you who love Anwar Maqsood, if you want to see his inspiration (I am really not sure if Yousufi is his inpsiration or not), you got to read Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi’s book.
Lets discuss in this thread what you like about his style, your fav book by this author, any quote that you want to share …
May allah give him long life …
I am so much waiting for his another book. Anybody knows if he wrote any after Aab-e-Gum
He was writing Aab-e-Gum when we had Marshal Law AKA Zia’s Regime. Yousufi was residing in London (he still lives there) and hated Marshal Law. He said
"jub main Aa’oozo billahi min ash’shaitan nir regime’ kehta hoon to lagta hai isee regime (Zia’s regime) ka zikar kar rahaa hooN
That was the most hilarious one liner satire on dictatorship that I ever read in my life.
I read all his books , I had my own library of Urdu literature back home in Pakistan . Zarguzisht made me laugh out loud many times when I was reading it.
Allah may grant Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi , long life. Ameen.
Dont know how I missed this thread on Mushtaq Ahmed Yusfi sahab since he is my favorite writer. I have all 4 of his books which is now called majmooa and has all of his books in one big book. In one of his books he quoted a shair....
Supurd-e-khak hi karna tha mujhko
to phir kahay ko nehlaya gaya hoon?
