Re: Mushtaq Ahmed - Appointed Assistant Coach
You are totally right. This is the sort of thing I have mentioned before. Yes cricket boss's in Pakistan are definetyely slow starters and basically they have been following others rather than trying to inovate something new. For example coaching and coaching qualifications has only really taken off in Pakistan recently wheras in other countries this has been going on for years or players sent to England / Australia to get these qualifications.
Re: Mushtaq Ahmed - Appointed Assistant Coach
What about Inzi when he retires. He can become the batting coach or ‘Religious coach’.

Yes but who will they play against. The opposition may not even turn up as they may fear the beards…

Re: Mushtaq Ahmed - Appointed Assistant Coach
Cronyism practiced by anyone is repugnant moreso for the self-righteous fundos who advocate religious morality yet have no qualms in favoring their cronies.
Where has the concept of merit gone? Aqib Javaid, Rashid Lateef, Jalal-uddin and many more have professionally managed cricketers, trained and groomed them yet cannot find proper recognition.
Utterly disgusting.
Re: Mushtaq Ahmed - Appointed Assistant Coach
Yup another very stupid and bizarre decision. I suspect it has something to do with the close friendship between Inzamam and Mushtaq. Remember it was Mushtaq Ahmad who first brought Inzi to the attention of Imran Khan.
Re: Mushtaq Ahmed - Appointed Assistant Coach
opposition can forfeit the game, this is not our problem

Re: Mushtaq Ahmed - Appointed Assistant Coach
On one hand we have Australians whose most outspoken player says, and I quote "I'm a big believer that the coach is something you travel in to get to and from the game!" Aussies have only one coach, a pretty good one at that, and they are questioning whether at international level does a team really need a coach? Probably because between the captain and the senior players you can make all kinds of strategies to win, and the players at this level do not need to be explained how to ball or bat or field. And here in Pakistan cricket team, which aspires to be the #2 team in world cricket, we have an unending line of coaches getting free rides with the team.
Ofcourse, in Australia, very rarely do you see raw talent making it to the national team. One has to prove himself in domestic cricket again and again to be considered for national team, and by that time, all technical flaws are removed by regional and local coaches. Here in Pakistan, we are a big believer in raw talent, and in many instances the youngest players are hailed as great heroes of tomorrow and thus I think almost all records of youngest players belong to Pakistan (Mushtaq Muhammad, Miandad etc). I didn't look up record books, so don't jump on. I am just making a point. As a result, we do get lots of players in our national team who have horrific technique and basic flaws in their game, and thus a need for all sorts of coaches.
Re: Mushtaq, he is just a waste of space.

Very good points by Faisal.
Re: Mushtaq Ahmed - Appointed Assistant Coach
Rubbish idea.
I am more than happy for him to be in the playing team, and not a coach. The guy has been a leading wicket taker in the county season for 4 years in a row and hes not good enough for our national team? What exactly are the reasons hes not played anymore? is it politics? fitness? form? i dont think hes got a problem in any of those departments.
Re: Mushtaq Ahmed - Appointed Assistant Coach
Faisal:
We must not imply that a coach's job is only to fix flaws in techniques of bowlers and batsmen. That's a more recent development. The primary function of a coach (a coach = Head coach, not the specialized coaches) is to "formulate and help the Captain execute a winning strategy." That alone needs a full time coach, techniques and flaws not withstanding.
Yeah Aussies can brag that they don't need a coach. Not all international teams are gifted with great strategist at all times. We'll see what Warne says once they start losing a few!
Re: Mushtaq Ahmed - Appointed Assistant Coach
Ofcourse Australians are a class apart. However Pakistan's penchant for appointing coaches is getting out of hand. Part of the problem, I suspect, is that many of our international players have bad techniques and thus need coaches in all disciplines. Thus the need to appoint bowling coach, fielding coach, astanja coach, so on and so forth.
And with Inzi at the helm, we definitely need someone else to make strategy, though I rarely see any evidence of Woolmer filling that position either (agree with Imran Khan), considering the team has done many bloopers of strategy in the last few years.

Match-fixing judge surprised at Mushtaq’s appointment

September 19, 2006
Justice Malik Mohammad Qayyum, the retired Pakistan high court judge who headed the inquiry into match-fixing, has expressed his surprise at the appointment of Mushtaq Ahmed as Pakistan’s assistant coach for the Champions Trophy starting next month.
Mushtaq was one of the players implicated in Qayyum’s report in 2000, in which he was fined, along with team-mates Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Aqib Javed, while Salim Malik and Ata-ur-Rahman were handed life bans from the game.
“I had recommended in the report that Wasim Akram and Mushtaq should be kept under observation,” Qayyum told Reuters. “I had recommended they should not be appointed to any position of authority or responsibility.”
The Pakistan Cricket Board defended its decision to appoint Mushtaq, brushing aside the match-fixing allegations, saying it was happy with his conduct over the last few years. “The match-fixing issue is an old episode,” said Abbas Zaidi, the PCB director. “As it is, Mushtaq is there for just one tournament and is not an active a member of the playing squad.”
Mushtaq had earlier served as a bowling consultant during Pakistan’s last home series against England and India. He wasn’t selected in Pakistan’s Champions Trophy squad, despite being the leading wicket-taker in the English County Championship where he is playing for Sussex.
