Washington, Dec 1 : The Pakistan Government’s “image repair” team led by Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Nasim Ashraf has been scathingly criticised at the Asia Society, New York, a media report has claimed.

According to the Daily Times, the Pakistan Mission to the UN had advised the Musharraf regime against sending such a delegation to the US “at a time when things were already easing up at home.” Similar advice was also sent from London, but Islamabad thought otherwise.

The main effort of the three speakers - Ashraf, Barrister Mohammad Asif Ali Saif and former member of the National Assembly (MNA) Kashmala Tariq - was directed at denigrating the Supreme Court and its deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, the daily said.

**Many members of the audience accused the speakers of distorting facts and even “lying”. **

Former MNA Tariq and Barrister Saif accused Chaudhry and Justice Khalilur Rahman Ramday of working in tandem with Aitzaz Ahsan, a conspiracy that was backed by former premier Nawaz Sharif, to get rid of President Pervez Musharraf.

Saif said Aitzaz Ahsan was planning to form the “Justice Party” which would have been headed by Justice Chaudhry.

Ali Ahsan, son of Aitzaz Ahsan who works for the United Nations, and who was among the audience, denounced the delegation as a bunch of liars.

Nicholas Platt said, “Lawyers talk too much,” while asking Saif to shorten his speech.

maybe musharraf needs to hire teh same lobbying firm that lobbies for benazir and blackwater etc. they seem to know how to shape public opinion, what would a rag tag group of officials going to do against targeted specialized machinery of washington dc lobby firms.

Besides heading PCB Dr Naseem Ashraf (a renal (kidney) physician) has also been the Chairman of National Commission for Human Development since 2002 which if his claims are to be believed is doing a good job in improving adult literacy ratio and promoting health awareness at grass roots level

These totalitatrian regimes are all the same. The arrognace to think that you could convince EVERYONE in the world of your position just by useing soft words and your brand of “logic.”

Dr Naseem Ashraf was among the founders of Human Development Foundation in USA, a group that has made a massive impact in human development area from education to microfinancing and poverty alleviation. It was due to the work of this organization that he was asked to serve on Human Development Initiatives by Shaukat Aziz.

Maybe politics has changed him but he was not the type of person who would do something he did not feel right about. As far as what type of person he is, he had no reason to launch HDF, there are plenty of pakistani doctors in US who couldnt be bothered about doing anything.

not quite sure why he was asked to run PCB afterwards, and why he accepted. The interesting thing about him is that he is friends with Shaukat Aziz as well as Imran Khan. His friendship with Imran is one of the reasons that Imran has been involved in HDF as well, most recently being the keynote speaker for HDF fundraisers in California in 2005. and an earthquake beenfit event later the same year in which HDF was among the organizers.

I saw his speech to the NYBA. The kid has very good communication skills. I think he is lawyer too...or studying law like his father.
