So when the democrats, who by the way are poised to win, what will happen to Musharraf? The only thing thats keeping Musharraf in power right now is the love that Bush and the republicans have for him. With hardly a tiny fraction supporting him, there is no way that the old dictator can stay in power without America’s support, which he wouldnt get from sister hillary.

When Musharraf took over, he neither had Republican support nor from the democrats.
He had support from the Pakistani common man way before Americans sent a single penny.
It is not Republicans who pay Musharraf,
It is America who pays for "military contracts" awarded to Pakistani military and other institutions.
If Democrats win, sure they can change the policy.
However it is wrong to pin hopes to Democrats, and it is even worse to expect Hillory or Obama will unseat Musharraf.
Musharraf will remain as prez as long he has support of common man and above all military. If the time comes I am sure he will step down and let Kiyani take the full charge.

What military contracts are awarded to the Pak military? To kill its own people? I dont think they fought the Indians in the last 8 years?

They will, and that means Musharraf is history.

Are you kidding me? He has the support of the common man? Is that why everyone has nothing but gall galouch for him? Even the republican surveys pin him down to 10-20% support!
Re: Musharraf to go with the Republicans?
the discussion between whether democrats or republicans will win is an interesting discussion.
I dont think that either Obama or Hillary are going to be the next president. If they join forces they have a chance but onb their own I am not sure.
remember that in 2004, people thought it would be a wash and that bush will lose with a huge margin, he did not. he won. in 2000 ppl thought that gore would lose badly and he almost won.
the issue is that there is a large number of people who will only vote democrat or republican, so that is in the bag for both parties, its the independents and the middle of the road ppl from both parties.
I think we will see that the reality will be very different come election time. its not goign to be as simple as it seems.
lets see.
Re: Musharraf to go with the Republicans?
Hillary hopes Benazir’s ‘vision’ will prevail
By Khalid Hasan
WASHINGTON: Hillary Clinton has called Benazir Bhutto a “courageous and determined leader” whose vision, hopefully, will continue to inspire the people of Pakistan.
In a letter to Asif Ali Zardari, Senator Clinton, after expressing condolences to him and his children on her and her husband, former US president Bill Clinton’s behalf, writes, “As so many people know Benazir was a courageous and determined leader. To us, she was also a friend and we are grateful that we had the opportunity to know her and work closely with her. We hope that her vision will continue to inspire possibilities for a better, more hopeful future for the people she loved and the country she served. We will be keeping you, your family and the people of Pakistan in our thoughts and prayers.”
Meanwhile, American political leaders and establishment figures appear to have decided to ignore the negative perceptions about Zardari in order to reach out to him as the leader
of Pakistan’s largest political party, a source on Capitol Hill said.
“It is clear that perceptions in Pakistan are sometimes manipulated so we have to deal with Benazir Bhutto’s successor in his own right and not in the light of unflattering things said about him by past and present Pakistani establishments and political opponents.”

Re: Musharraf to go with the Republicans?
US will work with whoever US needs to work with. Some people have been upset with teh support of US to Musharraf, others were upset about teh support US was providing BB, and yet more will be upset about US reaching out to Zardari.
But that is call politics, strategic interests and plan A, B, C…N
PS: I do hope that ppl in capital hill get names.

Mush never had the support of any common man and anyways he never did need any. A brutal dictator never does. Republicans/Democrats dime of a difeerence between them. How pathetic it is that we in Pakistan are concerned who comes in offise in the US, when pakistanis themselves have been forced experience the imposed decaying rule of a US puppet.
Re: Musharraf to go with the Republicans?
People also predicted President Musharaf’s demise in 2004. ![]()
Re: Musharraf to go with the Republicans?
^^ "main na manoon" group predicts future like "palm teller". Mushi is here to stay, accept it or keep crying. See what happened to thief judiciary and biased media..Get "aqal k nakun" ...
May ALLAH show them the right path.
Re: Musharraf to go with the Republicans?
I certainly don’t recall that. Why do you continue to make things up, and think people will fall for it?? Typical tactic of a dictatorship
Re: Musharraf to go with the Republicans?
Lets see how long the unpopular dictator bhudda lasts without the wests’ support. The only reason hes there now is because hes a spineless pithu of Bushy.
Re: Musharraf to go with the Republicans?
^^ ... Ahem Ahem, what is your time frame for Mushi leaving office?

Its like, Mush has some izzat, don’t talk like that about him. He is a proud leader of a great nation. That nation loves him. He is not a servent of anyone but his people.
bohat hi achay!
As far as support is concerned the last poll showed some 12% approval rating. OK, thats some serious support he has got. Much more than his daddy Bush.

even "will-based-democracy" can not last without that :)

I agree, but the will based person you are referring to isnt the illegal dictator I am talking about.

When Mush took over things were different and his ideology as well. It changed 180 degrees as soon as he saw American coming after him and Pakistan. Remember that too?!
Re: Musharraf to go with the Republicans?
Are you suggesting that the great President Musharaf saved Pakistan. What changed your mind. ![]()
Re: Musharraf to go with the Republicans?
Hillary hopes Benazir’s ‘vision’ will prevail ....
And BB Marhooma's vision was????????????????
- Hand over AQ Khan
- Allow American army to invade and carpet bomb our Sooba Sarhad and Ilaqa ghair
- Give away everything Indians wanted
and the list goes on!
No wonder a "presidential hopeful of USA" wants to keep that vision alive.

Right, which is why the "main na manoon" group also changed their stand.
Re: Musharraf to go with the Republicans?
NO presidential candidate especially from the democrats but also the present crop of neo conservative ideology infected republicans sans Ron Paul have any remarkably different policy for Pakistan. None of them care for the people, we know that. Al of them have the rhetoric of diposing Musharraf ( the text book end of a foolish puppet) and harping sympathy for the people of Pakistan. But in the end, it's all talk. The US presidential elections are and should be irrelevant to Pakistanis.
