Musharraf’s oath a standing joke: Justice Rehman

There are honest judges, and here is one example. Justice Rehman was LHC judge for 4 days before he was asked to retake oath on PCO and he refused.

Musharraf’s oath a standing joke: Justice Rehman

By Shakeel Ahmad

MULTAN, Dec 2: Musharraf’s oath for the office of the president under suspended Constitution and by a judge who has himself taken oath under the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) was a joke with the Constitution, says Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman of the Lahore High Court, who was among those judges who were invited to take oath under the Provincial Constitutional Order after Nov 3 but they refused.

“Such acts have no parallel in history. They can be only taken where there is a law of jungle,” he said.

Justice Rehman was on the Multan bench of the Lahore High Court when the emergency was imposed. Talking to Dawn by phone from Lahore, he said though he had taken oath as a permanent LHC judge only four days before the imposition of the PCO and at a time when his retirement was still eleven years away, it was his conscience that had restrained him from taking oath under the PCO.

He said had he taken oath, it would have pinched him forever that he had done something unconstitutional and illegal and against the decision of the seven-member Supreme Court bench that had directed the judges on Nov 3 not to take oath under the PCO.

Answering a question about the rejection of oath offer, Justice Rehman, who is the son of Justice Hamoodur Rehman, said that his family traditions did not allow him to take oath while it was also the matter of his conscience.

“Pakistan has given us too much and it is time we return it something. I can scarify anything for his country.”

Justice Rehman said the judges had fulfilled their duty and now it was the responsibility of each citizen of Pakistan to come forward for the supremacy of law, restoration of Constitution and reinstatement of the judges who refused to take oath under the PCO.

He said that he was living in his private residence and had abandoned his car the very next day after the imposition of emergency but he would say that it was the right of judges to keep official cars and residencies because no notification had been issued regarding their removal or retirement.

He said Gen Musharraf, Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, Sharifuddin Pirzada and Attorney General Malik Qayyum were responsible for damaging the Constitution.

Re: Musharraf’s oath a standing joke: Justice Rehman

justice rehman? lol what justice rehman.

you mean some guy named rehman right?

Re: Musharraf’s oath a standing joke: Justice Rehman

^^FYI he had 11 years b4 retirement. If he had agree to take on PCO he would've been a judge for loge time. I say kick out he lota CJ Dogar and appoint him as CJ. The man is standing for what is right and he refused to sale his soul for a job.

Re: Musharraf’s oath a standing joke: Justice Rehman

I don't want to argue. The past is the past. Can you think of something constructive to post instead of some guy who still claims to be in a position he isn't anymore.

Re: Musharraf’s oath a standing joke: Justice Rehman

Sure, past is past, but what is wrong is wrong too. Just b/c its in past doesn't meant it right either. Mushrraf committed treasons & I'm sure you know what the punishment for treason is, or do you?

Re: Musharraf’s oath a standing joke: Justice Rehman

What, no calls for reinstatement of the the EX CJ iftikhar? :)

Re: Musharraf’s oath a standing joke: Justice Rehman

What kind of nonsensical statement is that? You mean if someone has committed a murder or sin in the past we should just forgive him because the past is the past.

If you support Mush fine but atleast have the courage to admit what is wrong is wrong. Have some morals and principles in life. btw did you know that when Mush goes to the loo, I heard it all smells of perfume!!

Re: Musharraf’s oath a standing joke: Justice Rehman

Good joke. Let us all forget Pak history and build a new state.

I wonder how Musharraf sleeps at night, knowing he is responsible for a nation he betrayaled at times.

Re: Musharraf’s oath a standing joke: Justice Rehman

One joker took oath from another joker under a joke of PCO. So what's new. This joker (retired drill master) has made Pakistan the laughing stock.

Re: Musharraf’s oath a standing joke: Justice Rehman

No because in Justice Rehman's view of the world any judge who takes an oath on the PCO is a joker. So surely he thinks Iftikhar was the Chief Joker?

Re: Musharraf’s oath a standing joke: Justice Rehman

no one commited murder though. and this type of thing can't be reversed. Musharraf just can't let that happen. Niether can the people who support him, allow this. Lets move on.

I don't think musharraf did anything horribly wrong under the circumstances. It doesn't matter who he tries to appease anymore. When he kills extremist wahabis who hate pakistan (in lal masjid) then he's a bad guy, when they suicide bomb our country then he's a bad guy, and when he makes a deal with them then he's a bad guy.

Re: Musharraf’s oath a standing joke: Justice Rehman

Joke or no joke but it is an amazing rather astonishing anomaly. A person who set the constitution aside, holds it in abeyance, sets up kangaroo courts , gets himself elected under PCO, and takes the oath under constitution, which is in abeyance. And the person who is administrating the oath, CJ, does not recognize it. It can only happen in Pakistan.

Re: Musharraf’s oath a standing joke: Justice Rehman

So true.

Re: Musharraf’s oath a standing joke: Justice Rehman

You are seeing things that are not there, and blowing things way out of proportion. Musharaf is here to stay. He's the man. :)

no to nawaz.
no to benazir.

do you understand that?

Re: Musharraf’s oath a standing joke: Justice Rehman

I thought you had objection to his reinstatement b/c of his previous PCO sin. You say can't same for Justice Rehman. So, let us make him the CJ.
