I just find it ironic that supporters of Mushy used to downplay civilian leaders making deals for safe passages abroad, and their very own hero chose the same easy way out when it made sense for him.
You are also right, they keep dreaming of being in power and Musharraf had no intentions of leaving office despite his unpopularity and a surging civil movement. The focal point was a simple order from his supreme commander. Of course, once the uniform was off, he had no real power and his new supreme commander in the west called him a military dictator and the rest is game over for Mush.
