This is what Dr Mubashar Hassan has to say of present regime. that in comparison present regime is better than all past regimes in Pakistan. It seems that even the person who is considered as amongst few main personalities in creating PPP, admit that President Musharraf regime is better than any past regimes, including the regimes this person was part of, that is Z A Bhutto’s so-called democratic government of 1971-1977.

Wednesday, December 05, 2007
ISLAMABAD: Dr Mubashar Hassan, the founding member of Pakistan People’s Party, has said that no change has taken place in the country’s politics over the past 60 years. He said that the tenure of President Musharraf was better when compared to the past regimes.
Talking to a channel, he said numerous experiments were conducted during this period with no positive results.
During the past six decades, six presidents were removed, 12 prime ministers were dismissed, two were assassinated and 10 parliaments were dissolved.
**Dr Mubashir said that an assortment of civilians, capitalists, landlords, merchants, lawyers and bureaucrats ruled the country during this period but the status quo in politics could not be removed. **
To a question, he said the tenure of President Musharraf was better when compared with the past regimes.
He said instead of getting entangled in trivial affairs, it was incumbent on political leadership to sit together to seek ways and means to break the status quo and take the country towards real democracy.
Dr. Mubashar urged political leaders to stop looking towards the establishment and foreign leaders to enter into power.
“They should themselves work out ways for ensuring favorable political environment that would help achieve targets in areas of economic progress, human rights and social justice, etc,” he added.
He said it was the responsibility of the political leadership to promote democratic tendencies in the society.
He stressed the need for provincial autonomy and decentralization of power to ensure the participation of all segments of the society in the development process.
