Islamabad: The Pakistan police arrested scores of school students, the youngest being a 12-year-old, who participated in a silent rally here to protest against the Emergency imposed by President Pervez Musharraf.

With silver and black tape stuck on their mouths and holding placards with slogans like “Justice for justices” and “Free the media”, about 100 students braved police batons near the upmarket Jinnah Supermarket here yesterday.

Police arrested 48 of them, who were later released on bail.

Samad Khurram, who took part in the protest, told the News, "Students of various high schools organised a silent protest. When the policemen approached us and asked us to stop, we did and tried to cooperate with them.

“But as we were going back, 600-700 policemen, including women officers, anti-terrorist squad commandos and officers in plainclothes descended and told us they would arrest us because a protest rally was not allowed,” Khurram said.

He accused the police of using batons to disperse the children and pushing, dragging and even abusing them before they were shoved into police vans.

A large number of girls also participated in the protest, probably the first organised by school children though demonstrations have been organised in several universities and colleges over the past week.

“Most of those arrested are studying in classes 9 to 12, the youngest was just 12 years old!” Khurram said.

After police shoved 48 students into vans, some lawyers and human rights workers managed to convince them not to arrest more children.

So he is more cruel than Bhutto! When I was around 10 I was not beaten and arrested for protesting against him.

Re: Musharraf now arresting high school students in Islamabad

People with "thick heads" need to understand that "EMERGENCY" rule has been declared in Pakistan. Anyone breaking the law can be arressted, be it Imran Khan's sisters or high school students and holding protests and rallies is breaking the law under emergency rule. If you dont like being rounded up and thrown in jail, kindly do not join such politically motivated rallies.

You are welcome.

Re: Musharraf now arresting high school students in Islamabad

Well they need to sacrifice for something or as the MQM goons say "tehreik lahoo mangti hia"!

Re: Musharraf now arresting high school students in Islamabad

Thankyou ashtray sir for putting it in simple language, many don't seem to understand these tiny obvious things.

Re: Musharraf now arresting high school students in Islamabad

People understand it and they have all rights to reject it. This country is not Musharraf's property that he can do whatever he wishes. It is time that people slape these moron dictators and politicians in their faces for hijacking our country. It is their right to support the person who stands strong for the rights of people of Pakistan.

Re: Musharraf now arresting high school students in Islamabad

Well said! Why are so many of these people against Pakistanis fightig for their long overdue rights?

Musharaf stoops lower and lower. They could have easily avoided arresting these silent protestors who are just kids.

I feel sorr for them kids if they had to spend time in a cell and I have heard what pakistani police can be like...... :(

Re: Musharraf now arresting high school students in Islamabad

People got their right about 5 years ago to choose whom ever they wanted in office and will get the same right again in a few months again. Nobody has the right to break the law, if they do then they will be handled as per the law. If people understand the law and reject it then they also need to understand the concequences and as per Imran Khan shouldnt "chilla like kuttis" (kindly watch Imran's video for this statement)

It people sitting outside of Pakistan who have the biggest fire lit under them. I was in Islamabad the day emergency was imposed. A common man doesnt even care about emergency or the rights this oridinance has curbed. People are still going to work, coming back home, having their meals and getting their 8 hours of sleep. The only people whose rights are curbed are the piliticians, and them and their goons are trying to motivate innocent people to come out.

Pakistan ka dard Pakistan se door beTh ker bohat lagta hai sub ko.

Re: Musharraf now arresting high school students in Islamabad

oh we totally forgot about that, thank you for enlightening... people go home, our king has declared emergency so please do not protest it until our king takes emergency back.
