ISLAMABAD – Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf is likely to lift the state of emergency in 48 hours, local TV channel DAWN NEWS reported on Wednesday.

In a “change of command” ceremony held in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, Musharraf, as Chief of Army Staff, handed over command of the army to Vice Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.

Musharraf will take oath as civilian president for the next 5-year term on Thursday. He is likely to make an announcement to lift the emergency after a oath-taking ceremony, said the report.

Musharraf on November 3 proclaimed a state of emergency and promulgated a provisional constitutional order, suspending the constitution. The then-Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and some other judges were sacked on the same day.

The All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM), consisting of around 30 opposition parties, announced that they would likely boycott the upcoming general elections unless the government lifted the emergency and restored the sacked judges. The APDM plans to hold a meeting to chalk out a strategy for the forthcoming general elections on Thursday.

With all respect!
Is this kind a news like: "Bush sees Palestinian state next year".
Then I'm very convinced.

Re: Musharraf likely to lift emergency in 48 hours

He would lift emergency on 16th of Dec

Re: Musharraf likely to lift emergency in 48 hours

Well, my statement was logical b/c I thought if he was going to take oath on the constitution he has to restore it 1st. You can’t take oath on the constitution if its suspended. That is why i asked on another thread if he took oath on PCO?

Re: Musharraf likely to lift emergency in 48 hours

Musharraf is going out of his mind. I hope Kayani ousts him and declares martial law again to wipe out the jihadis and their supporters.

Re: Musharraf likely to lift emergency in 48 hours

He never had one. He was using Bush's, no wonder he is going nuts and doesn't have a single clue what to do.

Re: Musharraf likely to lift emergency in 48 hours

Re: Musharraf likely to lift emergency in 48 hours
