Nomi if he is using a US lobbying firm, like for overall PR and campaigns then it makes complete sense, the PR, lobby, ad agencies here are among the best in the world.

but if he is using it to lobby to US govt, that is just strange..and looks like he wants to get backing/blessing to come back, get back in power. looks desperate

thats what i am talking about....... i doubt that PR agencies of US would have enough expertise to handle domestic PR issues in Pakistan........

Political lobbying........ accessing congressmen and senators and caucauses and thinktanks n whatnot.......

While the "per month" figure of $25,000 might seem large, the total sum to be paid $175,000 is nothing... a drop in the bucket for a US lobbying firm.
Musharraf is paid hundreds of thousands of dollars on the lecture circuit. He can easily afford to pay the lobbyists.

This is what you and I think, he really believes that this lobbying will get him back to top position in Pakistan. He probably forgot that he has to become 'yes sir' man again before any chance can be given again to him.

You are right. If Musharraf pays $300,000 for a year lobbying to USA firm in USA, he could make several times more money because of that lobbying. Such lobbying could easily get him at least 3 to 4 lectures a month in USA and other places. Each lecture can fetch him around $300,000. Being non-resident in USA or any western country, he does not have to pay much tax on those lecture money. That means, spending $300,000 a year on lobbying could easily fetch Musharraf at least $12 million ($12,000,000) a year (or ~ 40 times what he would be spending on lobbying).

So, news of using American lobbying firm for his own promotion, if true, shows Musharraf is genius and know how to be financially astute. That is the reason, when Musharraf was in power, Pakistan kept progressing economically and Pakistan average real economical growth rate over his 8 years period was highest ever.:)
