Musharraf freed

Sanity has prevailed

A court in Islamabad has granted bail to former military dictator Pervez Musharraf in a case related to the murder of Lal Masjid cleric Abdul Rasheed Ghazi in a 2007 military raid.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Wajid Ali directed the former army strongman to submit two bonds each worth Rs 100,000 as surety for bail, his lawyer told reporters after the judge announced his verdict on the bail plea on Monday.
The ruling by the Islamabad district court means Musharraf is on bail in all the cases brought against him since his return to Pakistan from self-imposed exile, including one relating to the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
But the 70-year-old is likely to remain under heavy guard at his villa on the edge of Islamabad, where he has been under house arrest since April, because of serious threats to his life.
His name is currently on the interior ministry’s “exit control list”, which means he cannot leave Pakistan without the approval of the government.
Defence lawyer Afshan Adil told news agency AFP that the money for the surety bonds would be paid on Tuesday, but rejected rumours that have circulated in recent months that Musharraf would try to leave Pakistan.
“He is not going abroad and will stay in the country,” she said. “God willing, Musharraf will be acquitted in this case.”
Tariq Asad, a lawyer for the Lal Masjid (Red Mosque), condemned the bail ruling and said an appeal would be launched in the high court.
Musharraf’s aides have said the charges against him are trumped up and politically motivated and his official spokesman welcomed Monday’s ruling.
“We are confident that eventually domestic and international push-back will compel Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to cease in his tracks and the allegations filed against former president Musharraf in the Red Mosque matter will be withdrawn,” Raza Bokhari said in a statement.
Musharraf was arrested on Oct 10, five weeks after Ghazi’s son Haroon Rasheed registered the murder charge against him with Aabpara police in Rawalpindi. His arrest had come just a day after he was given bail in the last of three major cases against him dating back to his 1999-2008 rule.
The former commando returned to Pakistan in March to run in the May general election, vowing to “save” the country from economic collapse and militancy.
But he was barred from contesting the election, won convincingly by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif – the man he ousted from power in 1999 – and was hit with a series of criminal cases dating back to his rule.
The ex-ruler has been living in part of his 1,100 square metre (12,000 square foot) house, declared a “sub-jail” under the auspices of a prison in Rawalpindi. He is guarded by some 300 police, paramilitaries and marksmen.
Reports have claimed he is enjoying a comfortable life in detention. He has even had the services of his personal cook because of his fears of being poisoned.
The Taliban have threatened to kill Musharraf, who as president allied Pakistan with Washington in the US “war on terror” in the wake of the Sept 11 attacks.

Re: Musharraf granted bail in Lal Masjid cleric's murder case

General Musharaf is being screwed over this lal masjid case. Ghazi and his small army had literally turned that place into a military barrack (as it was reported at that time); what would have been the right action?

Re: Musharraf granted bail in Lal Masjid cleric's murder case

keyword: reported

and the solution at that time would of been to letting it die out on its own like professionals would have done. but mush and his gang had to show their loyalty to west... resulting in massacre.

He has been freed.

Re: Musharraf freed

his name is on ECL…he can’t leave legally…the only option left for him is to wear a burq’a, like Ghazi saab did to escape, and ride a donkey across the border to Afghanistan like this :gadha::cb:

Re: Musharraf granted bail in Lal Masjid cleric's murder case

When you attack the state you should be ready for the consequences. You cannot turn a mosque into a den of ammuntion and foreign terrorists. The army took the right action to defend the nation and send Ghazi to hell.

Re: Musharraf freed

I understand why some people have this hatred for Musharraf but I don’t know why you hate him so much. Especially when you are an Indian.

Re: Musharraf freed

Re: Musharraf freed

Military people will NEVER be brought to justice in Pakistan.....EVER!!

Re: Musharraf freed

Article 6 ka kya bana? another 'josh-e-khitabat'. PMLN should have a a separate minister for josh-e-khitabat related matters to keep track

In a country where Zardari can roam free then why not Musharraf?

Re: Musharraf freed

He faced all trials in which he was suspected and put in sub jail for months. And he is on bails which mean the cases not finish yet.

Re: Musharraf freed

Very interesting Report: … In lal Masjid case … Plaintiff (Haroon Rashid son of Ghazi Rashid) could not prove or even give any evidence that Musahrrraf was present at site of crime … OR … Musharraf was involved in the case … OR … that the Plaintiff was eyewitness about Musharraf involvement … OR … could not even prove that Musharraf ordered any action.

What a predicament that Plaintiff wants the result of court case on perception and personal beliefs … but in court cases are not won on perception or belief, but on proofs … that is different matter that as things are going on in Pakistan, especially against Musharraf … even some judges are bias … but judges should know that when a judge becomes bias, than someday someone would take them to task too.

**Points to ponder **(on whatever is mentioned in above ‘DAWN’ news article):

Plaintiff could not give any evidence or proof that Musharraf was involved in operation. (Case was started on conjecture and had no evidence, proof, or eye witnesses against Musharraf … but in court one have to provide evidence, proof, and eye witnesses)

Lal Masjid crook brothers were facing 31 cases in different police stations (shows their criminal character, rather they were hardened criminals … as only hardened criminals would be facing so many cases at same time).

Lal Masjid clerics and students had been involved in abducting government officials and foreigners prior to the operation … thus … District administration requested army to act after it failed to resolve the issue through negotiation. It said that during the military operation 10 army men, including Lt-Col Haroonul Islam and an official of Rangers, were killed in addition to civilians.

(Shows that Lal Masjid crook brothers with their thug students were making life of people hell and district administration tried to negotiated with them but failed … hence district government asked army to solve the problem. Army acted and army lost 10 men, including Lt-Col … show that Lal Masjid crooks were not only armed but ready to fight and were trained enough to even kill 10 army men)

Mr Musharraf, had not issued any directive to launch the operation against the mosque. (Since there is no proof or evidence that Musharraf gave directive to launch operation, means Musharraf did not … and if anyone thinks he did then have to give tangible evidence and proofs]

Tariq Asad (lawyer representing Lal Masjid crook brothers) maintained that the **residents of Islamabad were getting ****speedy justice from the informal courts **established by the clerics who were passing orders in accordance with Islamic injunctions.

Thus Tariq Asad this claim is admittance that Lal Masjid crook brothers were holding informal court in Islamabad and passing orders giving speedy justice. … Such act of holding informal court, passing orders and giving speedy justice is highest crime in any country (same as crime of being traitor and rebel to state) as this is same as rebelling against country’s constitution and judiciary system.
