ISLAMABAD: The Gallup survey revealed that 63 percent people rejoice over former president Musharraf’s resignation, while only 15 percent regret it. “20 percent were ambivalent about saying they were neither happy or unhappy”, the survey added.

**70 percent dispute Musharraf’s claim to have resigned with the motive of Pakistan first. Instead, they said he resigned in personal interest-‘Musharraf first’ approach.

The majority of Pakistanis, 64 percent, also reject his claims of economic accomplishments and good government during his last nine-year tenure.

Surveys have shown that, rightly or wrongly, majority of Pakistanis attribute current economic crisis and inflation to bad policies of Musharraf regime.

The majority of Pakistanis take a pessimistic view of the past nine years, 70 percent said it was bad or vary bad and only 18 percent said it was good or very good. The remaining did not give a view. **

As his tenure comes to an end, 55 percent Pakistanis expect that conditions in the country would improve with Musharraf’s resignation, 19 percent take a pessimistic view said conditions will worsen; 19 percent expect no change.

since when being illegal is wrong on pakistan ???

If you ask me we got rid of one criminal and and got our self a bigger criminal.
now ppl of pakistan HAVE to get rid of him(zardari) too.
Eventually ppl should get back what belongs to them.

Re: Musharraf first or Pakistan first

People have elected his party unlike self-imposed Musharraf.

Re: Musharraf first or Pakistan first

Our people deserve this ruling party!!!!!

Being illegal is certainly wrong...however you can argue it is a common practice thanks to people like ex illegal president retired General Musharraf....

Re: Musharraf first or Pakistan first

who ever argue that Zardari, NAwaz and Altaf are bigger thugs than Mushy are may not be aware of the development of Political process.

We saw glimpse of it in late 90s when Loyal voter of PPP didn't voted for their party ( they niether voted for other party), there was anger amoung the voters for Bhuttos.

Same thing was happening for Nawaz who was enjoying two-third majority ( by getting almost same amount of votes compared to last elections), people were getting frustrated from him and his government.

this is how good and bad are decided in normal politics, this is what make these politicians to keep check and balance and adpot people-friendly policies.

Unfortunately, MUSH halted that process for his very own interest, in result, these nawaz, zardari and altaf are back in power.

The point to be noted is, PML(N) seems to have learned from their past mistake, and have based their politics on certain issues or points. There is room for improvement and if the process continues next generation will have better ruling class.

Re: Musharraf first or Pakistan first

Musharraf came with the agenda to restore national confidence and get rid of the NS/BB political legacy. Nine years down the road, we can see hes completely failed. There is no national confidence now, and Zardari is running the show. What a waste! 9 years!

Re: Musharraf first or Pakistan first

"As his tenure comes to an end, 55 percent Pakistanis expect that conditions in the country would improve with Musharraf’s resignation, 19 percent take a pessimistic view said conditions will worsen; 19 percent expect no change."

This answer gives us an opportunity to see if Pakistan's majority has good judgment and an understanding of secular worldwide forces. An irresponsible, superstitious people can vote and guide the country in the wrong direction. I think, ultimately, a democracy is only as good as the people it governs.

Re: Musharraf first or Pakistan first

Musharraf promised the nation, that both BB and Nawaz, will never come to power.
So far he is able to keep that promise.

Thats Altaf bhai walla praamise, wont work, try harder.

Yeah, one got killed, half-promise fulfilled.

people in pakistan change their minds. a few years ago nawaz and BB were very unpopular..per the same IRI stats that people show here about how unpopular musharraf was in his last days. if you look at the same surveys, musharraf’s popularity tanked and BB and Nawaz’s increased.

so, I have no doubt in my mind that the stats that you posted show what the people feel like right now. It would be interesting to see 6 months, a year, 2 years later what the sentiments are. maybe they will change as in the case of BB and Nawaz, maybe they will not change.

but yeah, at the end of his tenure he was disliked by majority of the people. no doubt about that

It wasnt just the end of the tenure, it was when he brought back the same crooks behind the PPP, PML[n] in the form of the Q league, MQM nutjobs, and some elements in the MMA (very deceptively). When that wasnt enough to retain his kursi, he had to get the very kingpins (Bb, zardari etc) back to legitimize his lust to remain president forever. Thats when he pretty much proved that the words he uttered in Oct 99 were plain BS, and lost any support he had amognst the 'silent or vocal' minority.
