Has your mom or you started to stuff the pantry and cupboards with channay and boondi?
Have you started to clean the house so you won’t have to exert extra during fasts?
Are you giving your shaitaans a complete workout before they get caged away and pine away from lack of exercise?
Are you outnumbered 50:1 by samosian and spring rolls?
Ramadan is now the biggest event in the calendar of supermarkets here after christmas. All leading supermarkets put up special Ramadn Mubarak banners and sell all relevant items like, atta, chawal. oil. spices, and meat.
We are doing speical deals on meat in ASDA, Tesco, Sainsbury and Morrison. Each week we will be offering special meat platter to our customers. Some special deals on meat are below cost price to attract customers. Ramadan is big business now in UK and the multi national supermarkets have just woken up to it and are now participating fully in it.
It’s about time. In my humble pind, since it’s got such a heavy Muslim population, which also happens to be South Asian, I’ve noticed even the small supermarket chains, with maybe just 4 regional stores, have at least 1 page of Ramadan or Eid related products on sale. A lot of times it’s just samosiyan or ata, but sometimes they put some other food stuffs on sale too. Which IMO is such an awesome ploy to get more customers. The ones that usually go to tiny desi stores instead go to the big supermarket chains to get their cake rusk and frozen parathay.
So like after Christmas do you see a peak in sales for Ramadan and Eid?
Ramadan is our biggest sales period followed by Christmas and than Hajj. Funny enough people are still not buying their qurbani meat from big supermarkets. Halal turkeys at Christmas is big business now and most Muslims now celebrate the event here, hence the sales of turkeys at Christmas.
We only sell to big supermarkets, the ones mentioned above. last year in Rochdale ASDA we sold more halal turkeys than the supermarket did non halal turkeys.
Im gonna get started on making samosay, rolls, cutlets and kababs. Ill have a busy schedule in Ramadan too with work n stuff but really looking forward to it.
My uni will be off during Ramzan. So no worries here. I will watch a horror movie , daily and in this way pass my time during ramzan days. Vasay be Ramzan is toooo faaaar. But u are looking desperate, to be caged.
I’m continuing my no-fried-stuff-for-iftari campaign this year, so no real preps needed. My
husband and I usually only take kajoor and fresh fruit to break the fast and then go straight to dinner. With 15.5- 16 hr rozas, there isn’t time to have a huge iftari spread and then eat dinner too
