Re: Murder while saving woman’s honor not a crime: LHC
I must say I am appalled by the twisting of words to fill a specific agenda.
2 men (father and son) killed another man who was attempting to rob a woman of her honor. That is the gist of the article. Meaning a woman was being raped and these two men stepped in and killed the would be rapists.
That is acceptable in most common law situations. This is a precedent. It is not a law. It does not change how people will act. It means that tomorrow when your sister or mother is a victim of potential rape you can step in save your mother or sister, kill the ******* and not spend 10 years in jail.
Re: Murder while saving woman’s honor not a crime: LHC
From a 3rd party perspective....
The term 'saving a woman's honour' is vague and it can be implied by people to various situations.
1- Saving a woman from being raped by killing the rapist
2- Killing a man on the street because he made a remark against your relative
3- Killing a man because he decided to have love affair with your relative
4- Killing a man because he married your relative without your permission
5- Killing a man for political and personal reasons and then using the excuse that he damaged a woman's reputation...
Again, the judge is stupid because he did not clarify in exact detail of what he meant and it is a judge who is supposed to make clear legal ambiguities.
Re: Murder while saving woman’s honor not a crime: LHC
the issue sems to be more with the vagueness of honour here. There are other places that have diff classes of muder, first, second, third, manslaughter
murder of passion is in many places treated differently than first degree murder as well.
Again, the judge is stupid because he did not clarify in exact detail of what he meant and it is a judge who is supposed to make clear legal ambiguities.
How can we say whether it was judge who was stupid, may be it was case of "lost in translation" by the reporter? Did we look at the detailed ruling?
Re: Murder while saving woman’s honor not a crime: LHC
Its amazin how posters who sit in the west here have to rip in to Pakistan based on your own pathetic and rather ignorant views. I can bet that these same people would be defending this decision if it was done in the west.
Whatever inferiority complex you lot suffer from, don't project it on Pakistan.
Re: Murder while saving woman’s honor not a crime: LHC
CM,
Some Pakistanis would rather act like normal human beings, even at the cost of being accused of complexes as opposed to defending barbaric acts hiding under the name of "traditions."
If being ashamed of Karo-Kari is sign of some complex, so be it. If being ashamed of minorities put to death under ridiculous blasphemy laws is wrong, so be it.
You need to grow up an differentiate between Pakistanis trying to promote healthy debate internally versus anti-state people.
Re: Murder while saving woman’s honor not a crime: LHC
The only reason why I'm not posting up a 3 page thesis on the rights of women in this thread is because there's really nothing to argue about. Either no one here understands under what context and circumstance the judge has referred to the taking of a woman's "honor", or the judge didn't do a good job of defining exactly what he meant. I don't have the legal documents on hand and neither do you, so not going to even bother arguing one point over another.
