Muralitharan’s bowling action - any update?

So, he was tested by an expert in Australia after the match referee complained about his “doosra”. Since then, we have heard no news on what are the results of the tests.

I would think it must be bad news and that is why it is not being released to the public yet. I searched, and found this article
**Sri Lanka board receive news of Muralitharan’s Tests **](http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=story_6-4-2004_pg2_11)

MELBOURNE: Sri Lanka’s cricket board already know the results of Muttiah Muralitharan’s suspect bowling action assessment but are yet to publicly release the details.

University of Western Australia biomechanist Bruce Elliott, who supervised last week’s Tests, said on Monday he had spoken to the Sri Lanka board to pass on key data information. Elliott said he would complete a written report later this week and send it to the board. “They know what the numbers are,” Elliott told Reuters in a telephone interview from Perth.

“Just the pure numbers at the elbow. That’s the key to the issue I suppose but that’s where we are with that.

“I don’t know what the Sri Lankan board will be doing. I would hope they would tell me that they would let us make it public or they would make it public.

“Now really it’s up to the Sri Lankan cricket board and the ICC.”
Any one knows any update?

I don't.

ICC issues Murali warning

Muttiah Muralitharan risks being banned from cricket for 12 months if his action is reported by umpires or match referees in the remainder of this year.
The Sri Lankan’s ‘doosra’ delivery is under scrutiny after he was reported during the series with Australia.

If he is reported again in 2004 the International Cricket Council will convene its own Bowling Review Group.

It has the power to impose a ban of up to 12 months should it determine that Muralitharan’s action is illegal.

The University of Western Australia has analysed Muralitharan’s action on behalf of Sri Lanka Cricket, who were obliged to act after he was reported by Chris Broad in the third Test.

The ICC’s procedure for dealing with suspect actions allow SLC a period of six weeks to address any flaws.

At this stage, any decision or action arising from the investigation is the responsibility of SLC.

The ICC will only act should Muralitharan be reported again, and it would then have the power to suspend him.

so who's next????
shoaib????
harbajhan????

btw its good to see smoeone finally taking murali's bowling seriously....
he was getting off-limits with his javelin throwing.... :p

  • as it’s murali’s doosra delivery only which is under scrutiny… what he should do is not ball the “other one” again this year and work on the batsmen with his other delivers then next year/season start afresh :hehe: *

I thought the Australian experts had sort of cleared him.

hmm?

I don't have the article links on me but from what I remember his doosra was cleared. But as before, Ross Emerson etc immediately questioned the validity of the tests saying that Murli was bowling much slower than he usually does in a test match. And then, the ICC told the Sri Lankan board that if Murli is reported again for his action, he will be banned for a year.

So, I guess even though Murli is cleared for now, the victory is bittersweet.

^ Whose Ross Emerson?

I know Ponting (cz he likes to stick his face in everything) said that testing a bowler in labortary conditions for chucking is stupid... but who is this Emerson guy?

I think it was actually Gilchrist who said that. He made some comments about Murli before too for which he was censured by the ACB. But this time, they let it go.

Emerson is/was an Aussie umpire, I believe.

Right... I thought it was some Aussie player. My apologies to Ponting. :p

Anyway, so let me get this straight. Murli was reported by Broad for chucking. He was sent to Australia for examining by experts. THey concluded that he does not chuck. Now if he is reported for chucking during next 12 months, he will be banned???

Is there something wrong in this picture???

My mistake :o

ICC bans Murli’s doosra

I believe the experts concluded that more research was needed before it could be said conclusively that Murli was chucking. But the ICC has overruled it anyway.

Its heartening to see ICC finally dealing with chucking like it should be dealt.
The other thing that I want ICC to do is to come up with some solution to rampant erroneous LBW decisions. In this age of technology, its criminal to allow this to happen.
