I have heard this word mostly in Paki dramas. And seen in paki dramas where they show some Choudry in a village and then this guy who is named as “Munshi” basically follow around the Choudry of the village like a dog [no pun intended]. No matter how bad the Choudry would treat that Munshi - he will always walk all over his master while wiggling his tail. But then always at the end of such dramas they would show that same Munshi would back-bite that Choudry.

My question:** What are these Munshis called in English and what is the REAL purpose of such people? Are they meant to act as faithful dogs who will walk all over you once they see that you will give em the bone?
Do we have** munshis** on Gupshup? Also, do they mind if we call Munshi The Munshi?

zalim-jahil feron/landlord/jagedar/wadera is usually "one", but can have as many dogs.

They are accountant, manager, PR person, agent all in one for those feudal lords.
No they do not mind if you call them Munshi as it is their job and they love it .
There is no stigma attached to the word Munshi ,despite they being depicted bad guys in movies and dramas.
This job is very powerful job. Anybody who wants to borrow some money or any kind of favor from feudal lord has to contact Munshi. The FL will not take any financial decision without consulting Munshi.

I think its Chaudary who walks all over Munshi, rather then other way around. Btw Munshi is Chaudary's secretory and Munshi let him walk all over him, thats why Chaudary do that. :)
